Kristy Lee Cook's spirits were high despite being voted off Wednesday's American Idol.
After her name was announced, she walked over to Simon Cowell and sang Mariah Carey's "Forever," which made everybody (even Cowell!) crack up, a witness tells Usmagazine.com.
The 24-year-old Oregon native then hugged the remaining six contestants before her final performance.
"She cried a little but pulled it together," the attendee tells Us. "She was smiling at the end."
Cowell even showed his soft side: After the show ended, he hopped on stage, chatted with Cook for a minute and then gave her a hug, the witness says.
Cook's ousting was hardly a shocker: She had often found herself in the bottom three on the show.
Us Weekly cover girl Mariah Carey — who performed her new single "Bye Bye"— served as the mentor this week; contestants covered tunes from her catalogue.
Syesha Mercado and Brooke White struggled to match Carey's range and joined Cook (whose country spin on "Forever" did her in) in the bottom three. (White was weepy, the attendee says.)
Another Idol wannabe will get the ax next week, as the remaining contestants — White, Mercado, David Cook, Jason Castro, Carly Smithson and David Archuleta — are narrowed down to five.

The girls vocals are weak compared to the boys. Brooke's wholesome image is too much that it comes off as trying hard. The only people who really have amazing presence and a moving voice are the two Davids!

Kristy will have success in country music. Brooke will not win but, will do quite well in music. She is my favorite left with her versatility and song writting talent. Those of you who say she can't sing are either tone deaf or just stupid. She did a fantastic job with "Let it Be". David C will probably win but, not sure if he should. His style is the closest to what I like but, something is missing. He will do great inspite of what I think. David A is a great kid with a solid voice but, have trouble connecting to what his original sound would be like. When he sat down as opposed to picking a top three was great. Good kid. Carley has a good voice and has had enough exposure she will also do just great. Winning American Idol has little to do with future success. Brooke firing back at Simon I greatly respect. He is great for the show because, he plays his role. If you are honest with yourself how many of the idols who became stars has he supported. Simon is a good personality, not a music guru. He is right on what sells less the 50% of the time.The black girl is very good and will do fine. The other guy is only ok and should have left a few weeks back. Enjoy the rest of the show.

Yay! Finally she went home! It was past her time. She should have went home weeks ago. The girl can't sing, so anyone who thought she could, well, get some high definition sound and you'll see the difference. I'm also happy she left because her attitude was snotty. "Well, I made top 10." ... "Simon's a butt...that's how he'll always be." "I gave Mariah Carey goosebumps." ... This girl was getting too full of herself. I thought the song "Forever" was fitting for Kristy, because she'll be gone from Idol FOREVER!
Brooke should be the next to go. I can't stand her whiney attitude. Actually I can't stand any of the girls' attitudes. Syesha doesn't get on my nerves as much. Carly whines about Simon picking on her every single time. She wants him to take it easy on her. Waaaaaaaaaa...cry me a river. How about her inappropriate little dance as her and the others were safe and walking to the couch? Yeah, real classy. How about the motioning for little David for them to come and join their group, because they were the safe ones, and obviously saying, "We're the better one's." Yeah, real classy Carly. Can't stand you and your wannabe singing. Another wannabe Heart or Pat Benetar. She can't end a note and she yells. Brooke interruping the judges constantly, getting snippy last night, and lets not mention her crying every single time, and she's gotten quite pompous. Lets not to mention this girl is a snooze when watching her perform. Same every week. Thought she could really sing Mariah's "Hero," didn't she? Yeah right, as Michael Johns would say, "Dream On." I can't stand any of the girls. The guys are the ONLY ones that deserve to be in the competition.

yeah, it should have been brooke-and of course she got weepy. the whole show is about her and the other contestants are just minor characters in The World According to Brooke. good luck to kristy lee cook. I enjoyed her performances.

I agree with 1:14 Skye Kristy wasn't always the greatest, but, she has definitely stepped up her game in the last couple of weeks. Isn't that what Idol is all about? She should have stayed and Brooke or Carly should have gone home, they both stunk this week. Not fair! I also don't think its fair that Carly already had a record contract, give some of these other people a chance at it, she's already a has been, she can go home anytime!

Am I the only one who thinks that David Cook is horrible!? He sings too deep in his throat, he looks like some emu girl, and I thought his rendition of "Always Be My Baby" was the most horrid thing I have ever heard! Maybe it sounds different in the studio! Jason Castro is a weirdo and makes the dumbest faces when he sings. Who is gonna buy his album? People pick these weird people to advance who will never do anything with themselves after the competition like Taylor Hicks- what a winner he was NOT! I'm voting for Carley and David Archuleta. And at least Brooke is unique- she can actually make her own songs instead of having someone write them for her and play all the intruments for her. Kristy will have a successful country career.

Though I was not a big Kristy Lee Cook fan she didn't deserve to go this week- a few weeks back? Heck Yeah but the past couple of weeks she has really stepped up her game and on Tuesday when she sung Mariah's "Forever" it was her best performance ever on the show. *sigh* If anyone should have gotten the boot it should have been Brooke White. It's cool that she can play the piano but lets be real for a moment... baby girl can't sing a lick.

Syesha & Carly will be the next two. I LOVE Brooke, but she is not as strong of a singer as some of the others left. I would buy Jason's CD in a heart beat too, but David Cook should win it all! He IS a artist in every since of the word!

I think it was time for her to go. Brooke is probably next. She is sweet and all but she cannot get those higher notes like the other contestants. I think either of the Davids will win this one. I think David Cook is awesome and David Archuleta is very talented. I will be happy if one of those two wins. Have an awesome day everyone!!

Yes!! About time Kristy Lee was sent packing! Brooke should be next, especially for talking back to Simon like she did. She was completely out of line talking to him like he was a child when he was asked his opinion about how the vote went down.
I thought David A. was funny when he sat down and wouldn't go to either side. You know he knew which group was safe and which wasn't but he didn't want to be in the position to say it, well played.
