A week after a New York Times critic called Heidi Montag a "feminist hero" and said Lauren Conrad "could learn from Heidi right now," Conrad has spoken out in her own defense.
"I don't depend on men," she told Dramarama, a Canadian entertainment blog. "I have my own career."
The Times critic said Conrad spends her time "pining for [Brody Jenner], who, she has confessed, never makes her feel good enough."
"You show me the girl that is not affected when a guy that she likes, likes another girl," Conrad told Dramarama. "I don't think it makes me any less of a feminist because my emotions are effected."
"I think that I'm very independent and I don't let guys effect my life," she added. "I think in the past I have, and I've learned from it."
When asked if she could learn anything from Montag (who beat Conrad in Us' recent fashion poll), Conrad responded, "I will keep my comments to myself. I think that's really funny."
The March 24 season premiere of MTV's The Hills averaged 4.7 million viewers and there has been talk of a Hills movie.

I think Lauren is a talented young woman, as I do Heidi. However, I think that Lauren would be a much happier person if she learned the art of forgiveness. Holding on to the negative emotions that she does only hurts herself and gives them more power. If she can forgive Jason, Stephen, and Brody, surely she can forgive Heidi. Jason did far worse to her.

Lauren is so much better then her she doesn't need a guy to make her happy & Lauren knows that shes so much better then Heidi cause all Heidi does is talk crap and just hate on Lauren for being better and no hated by a lot of people like Heidi and Spencer are.

Both clothing lines are gr8t. Lauren's is pricier b/c she doesn't have a huge manufacturing company to mass produce her clothing line. Heidi's boils down to cheap labor cheap costs & perhaps inexpensive fabric that's bought in bulk. Lauren just the opposite. Patterns, fabrics, designs r all part of overall costs. I'd purchase something pricier that's not mass produced 4 a special occassion. Lauren's clothing line is sophisticated & refined. Heidi's r ready to wear, everyday, albeit fun clothing. Both feminist 2 some degree & on some level. Let's embrace 2 women 4 their strong qualities 2 businesswomen who work and/or go to school and r trying 2 better themselves. Women who r strong enough to put themselves out there 4 scrutiny.

Who the fug cares. Heidi and Lauren are LAME. I watched a little of "The Hills" this past Monday, and I nearly LMBO when Lauren was giving Brody the cold shoulder in the nightclub. Lauren is such a BIG baby. Someone needs to give her a box of cookies, since whiners like them so much. Heidi a feminist? Yeah....the moment I see that, I'll run naked across the President's lawn. In other news: I just saved a bunch of care insurance by switching to GEICO! That dang little gecko, he really roped me into this one!

I just have to comment on the fact that Lauren definitely has better style than Heidi..Who voted in that pole?? Spencer..all several hundred thousand times?? Have they even seen the show? Yes, Heidi's clothes are more affordable, but what person with some fashion sense would think Express or The Limited is better than Marc Jacobs or Versace?? That is basically comparing apples to oranges. Lauren will become more famous as a designer because her clothes are a little pricey..that is what high fashion is all about..who wants clothes that can be sold anywhere? If you want Heidi's clothes, take a trip to wal-mart.

Thanks to whomever else pointed out the "effect" mistakes--please, Us, People, etc., enlighten me again as to why I need to finish college and have a portfolio before I can write for you? Your writer used "effect" as a verb....TWICE! Worse, since journalists aren't always spot-on with grammar, your EDITORS let this go to print!

That's unfair to say someone is a feminist or not a feminist based on their relationships with men. Sorry, but you could be a complete feminist and have relationship issues or insecurities. I hate how some of these women who claim to be feminists sit around pointing out who is or who isn't a real feminitst. It's insulting. That totally defeats the whole movement because being a feminist doesn't mean you have to be a ball buster. Sorry for being so crass about it, but really, that's like saying a stay at home mom isn't a feminist because she's a stay at home. My idea of a feminist is a woman who knows what she wants and goes for it unapologetically, whether that is work or politics or family and home life. But if this woman is going to be so black and white about the issue. Having crushes or falling in love isn't something you control. I'm sure even those women who made feminism popular had their fair share of relationship issues.

I wouldn't hail either Lauren or Heidi as feminists...but I will say that I find it interesting that Lauren can easily forgive men like Stephen, Jason and Brody but not yet Heidi. Heidi is no saint, but those three guys did some crappy things to Lauren, yet she is easy to forgive them.
