Actress Lea Thompson is optimistic about her former co-star Patrick Swayze, who announced yesterday that he is battling pancreatic cancer.
“I’ve known him for so long, he’s a great guy, and I love him so much,” Thompson told Usmagazine.com last night at the Alzheimer's Association's 16th annual "A Night at Sardi's" fundraiser in L.A.
The two co-starred in the 1984 action movie Red Dawn.
“He was such a great dancer,” she added. “He will be resilient — us dancers are tough!”
Swayze got some good news from A&E Wednesday: His new pilot The Beast (Swayze plays an unorthodox FBI agent) "is in contention to become one of the new drama series on the network," an A&E rep said in a statement to Us.
"However, at this time all of our thoughts are solely with Patrick and his family. We are all wishing for a speedy recovery to a truly gifted actor."
Although earlier reports speculated Swayze, 55, may only have five weeks to live, his physician, Dr. George Fisher, told Us: "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."
“Patrick has a very limited amount of the disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far,” Dr. Fisher added.

Hi Mr Patrick I'm great fan an m thinking of the movie at present where an alien spirit in the form of light(star) enters into ladies house while she is taking a shower.In a Godly power the family photo album opens and this star enter into a babby child photo which takes form into a human being of human emotion and give life to a deer which has been kiled in an acident.

I've watched movies most of my life,I love to!And I watched many of Patrick Swayze's and I have to tell you the one I thought was the greatest was the role he played in "Donnie Darko" because it was a role I would have never thought he would have done,so I liked that it threw me and man did he play it well small role but important,Patrick your a great actor I love all your movies i've watched "Too Wong Foo Thanks For Everything Julie Newmar" I don't know how many times and will still continue to,I would just like to say,you are very brave and I think for news like this your handleing it very well and I pray you fight this and get well so we can have more of your movies to come,you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers!!!Good Luck Patrick!!!

Bridget and I were so privileged in meeting you and your lovely wife at the Ice Rink when you were making 'Ghost'. The greatest thing was the great hugs that you gave Bridget and told her that she had a great future ahead of her. She has 2 wonderful children, was in the Air Force, toured Iraq, and now is acquiring her Bachelors Degree. What your wonderful words have done.
You are a wonderful person and your acting is awesome. We will be fans here on earth and the hereafter.
A note: I had thyroid cancer 4 years ago and I beat it. You will beat this. The devil is striking you because you have greater future ahead of you. You fight it!
We are praying big time, my whole family. We are asking healing prayers from everyone. The devil will not win.

From Johns Hopkins: Cigarette smoke contains a large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals). Therefore, it is not surprising that cigarette smoking is one of the biggest risk factors for developing pancreatic cancer.
From the National Cancer Institute: Smoking and health history can affect the risk of developing pancreatic cancer.
From wikipedia: Risk factors for pancreatic cancer include Smoking. Cigarette smoking causes a 75% risk increase, and the risk persists for at least a decade after quitting.

All of my prayers and thoughts are with the Swayze family and friends. When I heard about this horrible news, i cryed for hours on end. I love all of his movies. A great one that he did other than red dawn, dirty dancing, and ghost, is city of joy. it takes place in india and shows us how the people live there. It is a great movie, but a tear jerker. Keep your chin up and remember that we all love you. Take care and beat this!!!!
