Actress Lea Thompson is optimistic about her former co-star Patrick Swayze, who announced yesterday that he is battling pancreatic cancer.
“I’ve known him for so long, he’s a great guy, and I love him so much,” Thompson told Usmagazine.com last night at the Alzheimer's Association's 16th annual "A Night at Sardi's" fundraiser in L.A.
The two co-starred in the 1984 action movie Red Dawn.
“He was such a great dancer,” she added. “He will be resilient — us dancers are tough!”
Swayze got some good news from A&E Wednesday: His new pilot The Beast (Swayze plays an unorthodox FBI agent) "is in contention to become one of the new drama series on the network," an A&E rep said in a statement to Us.
"However, at this time all of our thoughts are solely with Patrick and his family. We are all wishing for a speedy recovery to a truly gifted actor."
Although earlier reports speculated Swayze, 55, may only have five weeks to live, his physician, Dr. George Fisher, told Us: "All of the reports stating the timeframe of his prognosis and his physical side effects are absolutely untrue. We are considerably more optimistic."
“Patrick has a very limited amount of the disease, and he appears to be responding well to treatment thus far,” Dr. Fisher added.

I was a pack and a half a day smoker and quit smoking in one 30-minute treatment with laser therapy. I went to a company called Freedom Laser Therapy that provides a pain free low-level laser procedure which helps alleviate nicotine withdrawal symptoms. The staff at Freedom Laser Therapy is dedicated and passionate about helping smokers end their nicotine addiction.
I would really recommend laser therapy to help you quit smoking. Go to their locations page to find a Freedom Laser Therapy clinic or a local quit smoking laser therapy I was a pack and a half a day smoker and quit smoking in one 30-minute treatment with laser therapy. Patrick,
Bridget and I were so privileged in meeting you and your lovely wife at the Ice Rink when you were making 'Ghost'. The greatest thing was the great hugs that you gave Bridget and told her that she had a great future ahead of her. She has 2 wonderful children, was in the Air Force, toured Iraq, and now is acquiring her Bachelors Degree. What your wonderful words have done.
You are a wonderful person and your acting is awesome. We will be fans here on earth and the hereafter.
A note: I had thyroid cancer 4 years ago and I beat it. You will beat this. The devil is striking you because you have greater future ahead of you. You fight it!
We are praying big time, my whole family. We are asking healing prayers from everyone. The devil will not win.
God bless you Patrick & Family,
Bridget & Kristy
"People with a family history of pancreatic cancer should make an extra effort to stay off tobacco. A new study suggests smoking could trigger this deadly form of cancer in people who are at high risk of developing the disease."
~American Cancer Society website~
9:23 PM Anonymous Says:
Pancreatic cancer has nothing to do with smoking.
------------------------
NOT TRUE...
From Johns Hopkins: Cigarette smoke contains a large number of carcinogens (cancer causing chemicals). Therefore, it is not surprising that cigarette smoking is one of the biggest risk factors for developing pancreatic cancer.
From the National Cancer Institute: Smoking and health history can affect the risk of developing pancreatic cancer.
From wikipedia: Risk factors for pancreatic cancer include Smoking. Cigarette smoking causes a 75% risk increase, and the risk persists for at least a decade after quitting.
From the American Cancer Society: A new study finds tobacco may act as an environmental trigger for patients with an inherited genetic predisposition to pancreatic cancer. The study will be published in the December 15, 2004 issue of CANCER, a peer-reviewed journal of the American Cancer Society.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Patrick and Lisa both of whom I met at a Whitney Houston Gala in NYC. They are very nice, down-to-earth, soft spoken genteel people. I appreciate and admire the way they've lived - dedicated to and supportive of each other. Remember, Patrick is married to his soul mate for over 33 years - which of us can say that?
Fight the good fight, Patrick! My heart and prayers are with both of you for all the joy you've brought me doing what you love -- using all your natural, God-given talents complemented by a lot of hard work!
