Paris Hilton Spars with David Letterman on the Late Show

See an excerpt from the interview below: Letterman: “Have your friends treated you differently since you’ve been out of the slammer?” Paris: “No, people think that I was really strong and that I went through it…But I’ve moved on with my life so I don’t really want to talk about it anymore.” Letterman: “See, this is where you and I are different because this is all I want to talk about. Did you make any friends while you were in prison?” Paris: “I’m not answering any more questions about it. I’m here for my clothing line and my movie and my perfume. I’m not here to talk about that.” Letterman: “A person in your position now could serve as an exemplary role model for youngsters and there’s a lot of trouble in the world for kids. They have to be very careful. And they see now what has happened to you and it might occur to them, ‘My gosh, if it happens to someone wealthy and famous and powerful, it could happen to me.’ Do you get correspondence like that from kids and teachers and clergymen and stuff?” Paris: “I’m going on to the next question. I’m over it.” Letterman: “Because, in all seriousness, this could be your legacy. This, as a contribution to the young people of this country.” [Silence. That was awesome. Dave has paid his dues, he is a respected and honored personality in show business, so bravo to him for not kissing some over-privileged ass. I mean, how can you really care about a girl who's career launching moment was a sex tape? Seriously. I'm sure she's sweet, but a smarter person would have held her own with Dave and probably earned some respect...but, she's not smart. So...

David Letterman is intelligent but he shouldn't have continued when Paris said that she didn't want to talk about it. He's a good talker with a brilliant mind but not sensitive at all. Paris might have a bad side because of all the bad publicity but she is also a person who also hurts! she might not show it but I'm sure she's not stupid enough to know that Letterman was making fun of her and making her look like a fool like she has no idea what's going on. And i'm sure it was painful for her. I still love Paris.

Sad commentary that Paris commands the attention that she does. She didn't take the opportunity he offered her; she doesn't "get it" because she just simply isn't that bright. On the other hand, Dave was toying with her. If she was anyone else I'd think that it was kinda unfair for Dave to use his brilliant mind against this nitwit. But, I have to admit I rather enjoyed it. What is it about her? Is it her unwarranted smugness that makes her so annoying...?

Whoever keeps posting Dave is not Brilliant has obviously never watched the show . He is fantastic , what a huge difference he has all the money in the world but is more genuine than most people. and she has all the money in the world and is about the most ridiculously useless waste of flesh, it's a shame that she has become some sort of celebrity, when there are real heroes out there.

Letterman tactically dissected her, no questions asked. It was not immature or over the line, for his intention was never to actually interview her. His intentions were final and precise. It was brilliant, but not in it's audacity. The precision of coldness remains unmatched in television as of yet.

Continued post from above: It’s no secret that Hilton still has not taken full responsibility for what she did, and why the judge sentenced her. It’s one of the reasons why the American public still criticizes her today. (She said during her interview with Elle UK, that she was sentenced only for driving on a suspended license, and how “people thought he {the judge} was really unfair,” etc. She said nothing about how she violated the various terms of her probation for a previous conviction, her reckless driving on a suspended license, her behavior in court, etc. This is one of the reasons Larry King said during a follow-up interview about Hilton, that she was “in denial.”

Letterman gave her an opportunity to explain what she had learned from her experience, and how as a role model, she could help young people learn from that experience. It was yet another opportunity for her to come clean and be “real” with people. She just didn’t get it. The more she avoided the issue with Letterman, the more he pressed her on the subject of her jail stint to the loud applause and laughter of the audience…especially, when he asked her, “Do you know what you did?” He was both funny and brilliant. If you’re going to take Letterman to task about this interview, you’ll have to do the same with his audience, and most of his viewers…they obviously loved it.

She should know how the "game" works by now - you want to get yourself on a TOP-RATED network program to promote your product(s) or endeavors... you need to "pay the price" of being the circus boy or girl when you go on these shows. They are GOING to ask you the questions everyone wants to know - unless you're on Leno - he just plays it as safe as anyone can. At least Dave has integrity in ALL of his interviews. Respect for an interviewee is earned. NOT a given

People expect comedy from him, even if he's mean. Doesn't anyone remember Madonna on his show? He butchers people when he wants to. If Paris is so dang smart then she knew this going in. She kept her cool and was polite, he did his job. I like Leno anyway!

I thought this was hilarious! Although I dont like Paris, I do admire the way that she handled this. She rolled with the punches for a while and when she was fed up, she simply said she wasnt going to answer anymore questions about it.

Letterman has every right to take the piss, Hilton puts forward the most annoying and fabricated persona. Cushioned from any harsh scrutiny. Delighted that he took the chance. I love how he just charges into it.
