Lindsay's Dad: She's Turned Her Life Around, Still in Outpatient Rehab

Lindsay Lohan is preparing to return to her old stomping grounds in L.A. for the first time since checking into Utah’s Cirque Lodge rehabilitation center in late July.

The actress, 21, is due to shoot a cameo for the film Dare to Love Me starting October 15, and will be accompanied by a chaperone during the entire two week shoot. After filming is over, she will return to Utah for out-patient treatment.

Lohan’s father, Michael Lohan, who recently visited his daughter at the rehab center and rekindled their estranged relationship, talks to Us about how Lindsay is doing and what the future holds. See highlights from Usmagazine.com's interview with Michael below...

On Lindsay being sober:
“Lindsay’s so great. She’s her old self…I’m really proud of her. She’s really turned her life around.”

On what they did when Michael visited Lindsay in rehab:
“We went to the mall, spent quality time together. Just hanging out and talking. We were out in the woods, walking. She did some shopping, of course.”

On Lindsay returning to L.A.:
“She had second thoughts about going back to LA, and didn’t want to be in that element before shooting started on the 15th…Everyone’s trying to get her back to LA. She said, ‘I don’t know if I want to go back there,’ and we all talked about it. I told her, ‘Then don’t – follow your heart.’”

On where she’ll live in Sundance, Utah, during out-patient treatment:
“She’ll live in a house. It doesn’t need to be glamorous. She’s come back to nature. She’s humbled herself in a great way.”

On the pitfalls of being a child star:
“She has such a gift. It’s a shame if she didn’t use it the right way…Take any kid from an All-American family with no problems whatsoever and give millions of dollars and make them famous and put them out there. The problem when you have turmoil in your house as a result of all your success, now instead of just dabbling and partying once in a while, now you’re running away from it all…

On what Lindsay thinks of her mother doing a reality show:
“She understands her mother has to make money, but doesn’t necessarily agree with it.

On the promise ring he recently bought for Lindsay at Zales:
“It’s a promise now that we’re back in each other’s lives again, we won’t walk back again. It’s a band with all diamonds, then another band with diamonds, and a solitaire diamond in the middle and another band.”

The wayward actress has squandered a staggering $7.75 million just in the last few months.

Cash-stricken Lindsay has been forced to sell both her plush properties - a $3.15 million apartment in LA, plus her $1.1 million New York flat.

British reports have linked Lohan to billionaire Tom Gores, executive producer on her recent film I Know Who Killed Me but that claim has been promptly denied by a spokesman for Mr Gores.

“The story is totally false. It is absolute fiction. Tom Gores has never met Lindsay Lohan. He has never spoken to her. She has not ‘moved in with him,’ nor is she connected to him, in any way,” a representative for Mr Gores said.

Her extravagant spending spree includes:

• A million dollars on one hotel bill
• $137,000 in rehab costs, racking up bills of $30,000, $45,000 and $62,000 for each stint.
• Thousands in legal fees after multiple drink driving convictions.
• $350,000 on luxury Mercedes and BMWs
• A million on clothes
• $70,000 on tanning and hair-styling
• Well over $500,000 on partying

A source close to the star told Britain's News of the World: "The only reason she's coming back to LA, is to earn some money fast.

"She still thinks nothing of blowing thousands of dollars on a single night of partying.

"And the amount she has wasted putting cocaine up her nose is disgusting. Even she has lost count."

I think it's kind of sad in this day and age that people turn a father giving his daughter a present, jewelry no less, into something inappropriate. My parents have given me jewelry through out the years, but mostly to mark special occassions, like I got diamond studs for my 18th birthday. Stuff like that. I do think it was a bit odd for Joe Simpson to give Jessica Simpson a ring to pledge abstinence, but then again, I'm not a parent and I'm not religious so I can't personally relate to that. However, the ring Lindsay's dad gave her seems sweet. He hasn't been there in her life for years so now that he's turned over a new leaf and Lindsay is trying to move beyond her addictions and involve her dad in her life again, I don't know, I don't see the problem with him giving her the ring. Maybe it would have been less "controversial" had it been a locket or maybe a charm bracelet with meaningful charms but you can't turn everything into something skeezy and weird. I know everyone obviously has a different opinion about this, but I think people should give the guy a break. No matter what he says or does, he's wrong. Maybe he shouldn't be talking to the gossip mags, but he's been in jail and had his name pulled threw the mud so maybe he feels justified in showing the world that he isn't the deadbeat dad that he has been made out to be. I sympathize with him because I'm sure the drug use impaired his personality, and you can't exactly judge a person for how they behaved while on drugs. So, he's making ammends and good for him.

I for one think it is very impressive what Lindsay has done. She has turned her life around. She has been in rehab for a while now and seems really committed to the idea of getting better. For her to even allow someone from the facility to watch her every move while in LA is proof that she is going in the right direction. I hope that she continues on this path.
