Bachelor Andy Baldwin and his girlfriend Marla Maples have called it quits, he tells Usmagazine.com.
Baldwin's recent move to Washington, D.C. to take a job as an advocate for Navy Medicine put a strain on their relationship, he tells Us.
"The big move coupled with the long distance relationship wasn't working for us so I decided we were better off as friends," Baldwin says.
He first broke the news to the Washington Post. "We were friends, it got romantic for a little while, but we're just friends," he told the paper.
Baldwin, 31, and Maples, 44, met last year and spent New Year's together. They recently celebrated Easter in Hawaii.
"He's just a good soul," Maples told Us in April. "He's an absolute, complete gentleman."
A source close to Baldwin told Us, “He is inspired by her.”
Baldwin was briefly engaged to Tessa Horst, who won the final rose on The Bachelor.

Someone from the Washington Post is defending Andy Baldwin on an Us Weekly blog? That helps me understand why that publication has gone down the tubes. As for Andy and Marla, I'm not surprised. He's enjoying the benefits of being a Doctor/former Bachelor. Don't expect monogamy from him. It would cramp his style.

While I am glad to not have to look at one more picture of her fakey smile and his fakey pose, I am wondering why he has to run to USmag. for an interview. I swear if he farts it calls for a press conference. Any wonder Tessa got out of that? I honestly believe he loves her and she loves him, but she could not abide his self-absortion. This didn't work out because everyone knows that Andy is still in love with Tessa........ask his friends, they will all tell you that! Also, Marla just wanted publicity and Andy was her way to get it! She is still competing with Ivana,,,,,,,,Ivana gets a much younger man, so what does Marla do? She goes after Andy, a much younger man, when he is vulnerable from his breakup with Tessa........Marla knew exactly what she was doing........I have NO sympathy for her, she got what she deserves.

I think that Andy and Marla are both good people and whatever they may have decided to do with their relationship is their business. That said, I am one of millions who had an emotional investment in the Andy/Tessa relationship from "Bachelor 10" and still think that after watching all the video and pictures of them, that they are meant to be together.
