Meghan McCain: "I Almost Registered as a Democrat"

 David Hume Kennerly/Getty Images Republican presidential candidate John McCain's daughter Meghan is just 23-years-old, but she's had her own political evolution. "I almost registered as a Democrat to be rebellious, but I registered as an Independent instead," she tells Glamour in its September issue. "Then my dad bragged about it, so it backfired." Meghan, a self-described "total daddy's girl," registered as a Republican as a Father's Day gift last month. Though she's been crossing the country by bus to help the campaign, she takes issue with parts of the GOP platform. "I don't relate to the hard right," she admits. "I think it's time to reinvent the Republican Party. And I think my dad can do it." Watch a new John McCain ad featuring Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Meghan tells Glamour that she has a tattoo on her foot and wants another. "I was thinking about the nautical star [like] my dad's [campaign] sign," she says. "I love stars and obviously it's meaningful. Getting 'McCain' on my back was vehemently shot down. If my brother Jimmy [who is in the Marine Corps] gets deployed [to Iraq] again, we'll get matching tattoos." Meghan – who lunched with Hills star and McCain supporter Heidi Montag earlier this month – also opened up about dating in the shadow of her father. "I go on dates and guys are like, 'Oh, you really look like John,' and I'm like, 'As I get older, I'll look more like him. You could actually be dating John McCain," she says. To the person calling the other blogger a "racist white parasite"...get over yourself. Believe it not, white people can have opinions that aren't popular with blacks, hispanics and any other freaking group out there. White people don't have to agree with or rally behind another group because of race, even if you want to make that the issue. In fact, every major confrontation (and yes, all unprovoked by me) I have ever had with people in my life was due to the fact that they were black and I was white and they wanted to say something to instigate a adverse reaction from a white person just to feel better about themselves. It just showed how ignorant they were. Regardless, Obama is not fit to be a president. Neither was Bush. But Obama doesn't have the experience to run...his whole platform is change but hell, you can always change for the worse. He can deliver a great speech but doesn't have a clue about running a country. I could give a crap what the hell color he is...he is way too far left for this country.

Meaghan should be concerned about the national debt the Republicans have run up. Borrowing money to pay for tax cuts means some future taxpayer - namely, Meaghan and her friends - will have to pay for Bush-McCain benefits today. This is fundamentally unfair to allow a politician today to benefit from a heavy burden that will be placed on a future generation. McCain acknowledge in an interview that his tax cuts would add $300 Billion to the yearly deficit, and could only think of $100 Billion in spending cuts to offset them. Rembember - the government grew more slowly under Clinton than Bush2 - McCain's policies will sink us all, including Meaghan.

Um..I'm sorry, but I didn't even realize John McCain had a daughter! So, from just this article I would say that NO! She would be a horrible first daughter. At 23 she should get what ever tattoo she wants. Who is 'shooting down' her ideas? Her old dad? (He must have been about 60 when she was born.) Or her controlling mom? When you read this article she sounds like a teenager, yet she's 23? Yikes. It appears that she can't make a decision for herself and she has some self-esteem issues. Registering to vote shouldn't be an issue of rebellion, and then when you change that registration it shouldn't be as a 'father's day gift' during an election year! Ding! Ding! There's two points against her right there. She also seems unable to speak conversationally. Note the parenthetical words necessary to make her babble about stars readable: And she uses the word 'like' like she's a 'tween-ager: So, um, NO. I do not think this bobble-head doll would make a good first daughter. In fact it scares me when she says "I think it's time to reinvent the Republican Party..." because you know she had no idea what she's talking about! And what is up with his hands? They look strange. I've asked so many people why they're voting for Obama and the only response I've gotten is "because he's black." Isn't that racist? So you're not voting for McCain because he's white? People (particularly Obama) need to stop playing the race card. If race isn't an issue than it shouldn't come up on either side! Stephen Colbert says it best when he tells people he's literally "color blind." That's how we should all be. Republicans are in no way racist. Just look at Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas! Not only is he conservative but he was nominated by George H. W. Bush. How does that make Republicans racist? Now for Liberal Democrats? That's another story. Look up welfare and planned parenthood (particularly Margaret Sanger) for your answer. Honestly I think both candidates are lame, but it frightens me that people vote based on bloated speeches and physical appearance. Vote for whoever you want for but make sure you educate yourself about what each candidate stands for. That's how we move forward.

It really pains me to read the ignorance coming from both sides here. I am a registered Republican for so many reasons, and any sort of racism doesn't enter into the equation. Racist? That's hurtful. First of all, you're making broad generalizations about Republicans when you say that most of the racists are Republican. I know a lot of us Republicans, and I don't know any one who is a racist. Do you have proof of this sterotype, or does it just make you feel better to believe it? You don't really know who we are, or what we stand for. If you can name one racist policy that Republicans have tried to push, I'd be very surprised. Conservatism is good for African Americans. We believe that blacks are as good as, as capable as, and as smart as "white" people... so we don't believe that anyone should get special privileges or hand outs. It only causes people to not want to work for what they have. Why work, when you can get it for free? Liberals assume that minorities cannot do things on their own, without the government's help. We believe that the government hinders people from reaching their full potential. Democrats and liberals say that they are open minded, but from reading the postings on this article, they are the first ones to make assumptions, and to chastise any opinion that doesn't mirror their own. Go McCain! Low taxes, strong defense, and drill drill drill!!!!
