With Oscar season upon us and his film Apocalypto only nominated for one Golden Globe, Mel Gibson has submitted himself to a conciliatory interview with darkhorizons.com. Though darkhorizons.com, coincidentally, sounds like one of those apocalyptic cult memoboards where people go around bleating “The end is near!” it turns out it's actually an entertainment website.

In the interview, the actor/director continues to apologize for his tequila-inspired roadside oration, in which he made anti-Semitic and sexually abusive remarks to Malibu police. Gibson, 50, swears he’s rehabilitated and no longer has anti-Jewish sentiments or visions of “sugart-ts” dancing in his head

"I got a skinful and mouthed off which is not coming from a good place, but I'm moving on from that," says Gibson.“Everybody goofs, everybody screws up and I tell ya, if you ask everybody in the world to raise their hand if they never said something vicious, something that they regretted or something stupid, there wouldn't be many people that wouldn't be able to raise their hands."

However, at the same time, the actor views that experience "as a gift to me, because it's made me really sort of scratch my head and focus on a couple of things that I needed to."

Call us crazy, but an anti-ethnic rant just doesn’t say “gift” to us as much as, for instance, an Xbox 360. We can only hope that, so far into the holiday season, all the stores will be out of religious epithets, so none of Gibson’s friends or family will have to endure that awkward moment when they open up their very own racial tirade and say, “Wow, uh thanks. I’ve heard of these but it’s not the kind of thing I’d ever buy for myself, you know? So…yeah. Is there a gift receipt, by the way?”
