Melinda not in the finals? Injustice! The tension leading up to last night's elimination was almost too much for Us to bear, what with Seacrest pulling the "after the break" card not once but twice during the broadcast. Give it up already!
It was a treat last night to see Jordin, Blake and Melinda return to their hometowns (Glendale, Ariz., Bothell, Wash., and Nashville, Tenn., respectively) to watch their transformation from local girls and boy done good to bonafide superstars. From Melinda getting a street named in her honor to Blake beatboxin' it up with Sir Mix-a-Lot, it's clear these Idols are here to stay.
With the exception of Ms. Doolittle, of course. The humble Tennessean – and presumably a large segment of America - was visibly shaken when the results were announced and Jordin and Blake were welcomed into the Idol Finals. Was it a surprise? Somewhat, but hey, that just means she'll be able to release her record a few weeks sooner than her peers once her Idol contract is lifted. And if there are any tickets left after yesterday's presale for Idols Live! tour tickets, you too can see her in your hometown very soon. We've got to give you credit, Usmagazine.com users, you were right on the money when you voted Melinda's Tuesday night performances the worst of the bunch in our Water Cooler poll.
Here at Usmagazine.com, we salute Melinda for her humility and technical superiority in the competition. No matter where our current loyalties lie, she was a breath of fresh Idol air who will surely be missed. Put that Melinda Doolittle disc at the top of your holiday wish list, kids - but just know that the line at the record store forms behind Us!

Oh great... ANOTHER person on the blogs who is trying to turn EVERYTHING into a racial issue. *YAWN* How boring. I have been reading this blog and let me ask you; Who said anything at all about race? I really can't believe the ignorance on this blog. Is this about American Idol or about race. Fantasia is in one of the largest plays running and Ruben just released a new single. Carrie is great, Kelly is awesome and Clay can sing anything. I ask what the hell does that have to do with race. Get a grip PEOPLE.. P.S. not all african americans complain when we don't win, we have been in this game along time, and have become accustomed to stupidity, and most of the answers on this blog fall right in that catagory.

actually, Carrie Underwood is quite big; she's received a lot of awards and sold over 5m of her debut cd. But, she is country, so those who listen exclusively to pop never hear anything from her, so I can see why it'd seem she went no where.
on topic, I'm quite glad Melinda is gone. She should have never been there in the first place. AI is a contest for amateurs, something she is not. She's a professional singer, and should not have been allowed in such a competition. Now the finale gets to be what the show was supposed to have been: about discovering an untapped talent who may go far.

AI has to change the way people vote. It should be set up Like Dancing with the stars. Judges votes count and only so many calls per phone number. It would stop the rediculous votes from web sites and you would get a true picture of what America wants and not a group trying to prove a point

This whole contest is unfair--if they have 3 judges why are they not allowed to vote 50% by the judges 50% by the people. They really are not judges the only thing they do is critiqe the singers, give Simon, Paula and Randy a new title.

You barely hear anything about Fantasia or Ruben Studdard or any of them (of course that's probably because they both stink but that's just my opinion). Personally, because I am from Glendale, Arizona, I am rooting for Jordin 110%! She is certainly WAYYY better than Blake; I have no idea how he made it this far in the first place.

Without Melinda on the show, I could care less who won Idol. If I had to pick between Blake and Jordin, I'd choose Jordin, the lesser of two evils. She's certainly not bad, but she's no Melinda. I haven't been this upset about Idol rsults since Chris Daughtry was voted off. =(

I can't believe that Blake has gotten as far as he did - if I wanted to hear annoying sounds in the middle of a song, I would give my full attention to my ADHD grandchildren as they make lots of nonesense noises as they do their homework. I wouldn't exactly call it musical talent.

I would ask Melinda if she now felt like a leading singer. I would also be curious to know what genre of music she will be recording given her background. I hated hearing that she did not make the finals, but then sometimes it's better. I mean, look at Taylor, Ruben, Fantasia, they won, we expected GREAT things and it seems like their careers are just creeping along now as opposed to others who didn't win and have huge careers.

LOL You are right about that Jesse and Al have no jobs, they just live off people and wait for anything they can call racial and then show up.
Jordin is really a good one since she is 1/2 black and 1/2 white. So next season will be a toss up. It could go to either race. When are the Asians need to have some representation here as well as the Hispanic,etc.
It's just the blacks always love to scream discriminated against. The other races are too quiet!

I thought Melinda would be the winner this year. I really liked her voice and what she looked on stage. I was even more impressed of her reaction when they told her she was going home: she smiled and seemed so happy... for the other two! She didn't think about herself, she just wished them good luck... and smiled. She sang beautifully to close the show. I'm sure her adventure will not stop there. We will hear from her again soon.
How ever wins: these kids are doing a great job!

I was very surprised to see Melinda go in terms of the singing. Blake is unique and interesting but vocally no where near Melinda or Jordin. I hope Jordin wins as I can really see her as being the next Kelly Clarkson for AI. She has amazing talent for being so young.
Anon - Regarding the Ryan comment, I caught that too and thought it was a total slip up and they gave it away. Wasn't until they showed the clips I realized he meant it as the welcome back trip home.

Jordin actually looks smaller now than she did during the auditions and Hollywood week. She is not fat anyway, just big-boned maybe. Either way she is beautiful.
