Pageant Scandal: Miss Puerto Rico's Makeup and Dress Doused With Pepper Spray

Miss Puerto Rico 2008 Ingrid Marie Rivera earned her sash the hard way. The contestant's makeup and dress were covered in pepper spray before she graced the pageant stage Friday night in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Associated Press reports.

And while the consummate pageant pro maintained her composure in front of the judges, she stripped off her clothes as soon as she got backstage, where her body and face broke out in hives, twice.

A pageant spokesman told the AP, "We thought at first it was an allergic reaction, or maybe nerves. But the second time, we knew it couldn't have been a coincidence."

The pepper spray incident came after Rivera was robbed of her gowns, makeup and credit cards, and the pageant itself was delayed due to bomb threats.

A tearful Rivera explained her perseverance at a press conference on Sunday, telling reporters, "At one point I said, `Am I a masochist?' But I said, `I am with God and this is my goal, regardless of the results.'"

I saw The Tyra SHOW. and she made a good point when she said = "Wasn't Miss Puerto Rico a former Judge on the beauty pageant? It's like if I were to try out for America's Next Top Model, and WoN". Then everyone in the audience laughed. Another thing, she didn't even showed up to the Tyra Show. If she had nothing to hide, why didn't she appear? Think about that. View the facts. I believe it was meant for her to look like she was a victim so viewers wouldn't know she had influences in winning.

Don't get me wrong, she is beautiful and all but I do think it was unfair to use the pageant for fame, to make acusations on the other girls and get the girls hopes up when it was all a set up.

I'm from Puerto Rico, where the pageant was held, and news here are that those stories were made up to make her the victim. Everybody knew she was going to win, since she has been a very close friend of the pageant owner for quite some time, so to try to make the situation better they made her a victim.
At least that's the rumor here...

Yeah, I guess it was just a rumor, it was proven that her clothes were tampered with. This site won't allow me to post the link, do a search for the story on Fox News.

If you know ANYTHING at all, you'd know that some of the most intelligent women are LATINAS, and for that matter: some of the most BEAUTIFUL women in the world are LATINAS. I am from Puerto Rico. And i think this is horrible. This girl deserved the crown. Was it ovious she would win...OF COURSE!! Does that mean it was bought? No...People..se has the experience..for God's sake she got 2nd runner up in Miss World. She was the most prepared candidate...therefore she deserved to win, and she is our best chance at getting that 6th crown! Plus she is gorgeous...leave her alone!
