I am so happy that a restaurant took some pride in their service and their employees and banned an a-hole celebrity who does not have respect for the waiter/waitress. GO NOBU! I worked at a restaurant where celebrities came in all the time and they did not treat anyone with respect. They expected foods that were not offered, they always received them, and they tipped maybe 10%. The worst I have ever seen is John Malkovich! He requested an item that we did not make, the entree was made for him, he loved it and tipped a whopping 5%. That makes me sick! What an a-hole!

The REASON that the federal wage for servers is so low is because of TIPS. If it were not for that the wage would be the same as all others. No tipping means higher wages which means higher prices or gratuity automatically added in.

Law: A tipped employee engages in an occupation in which he or she customarily and regularly receives more than $30 per month in tips. An employer of a tipped employee is only required to pay $2.13 per hour in direct wages if that amount combined with the tips received at least equals the federal minimum wage. If the employee’s tips combined with the employer’s direct wages of at least $2.13 per hour do not equal the federal minimum hourly wage, the employer must make up the difference. Many states, however, require higher direct wage amounts for tipped employees.

11:42 anon- if you could read I mentioned in 10:36 anon that I was a nurse (past tense). That means I use to be a nurse dear. And that's exactly why I quit. I hated it. I've had one too many rude servers to tip all of the time. I do tip when the service is good, but are you saying that when waitors are rude people should still tip? If that's the case, kiss my pretty a$$. I didn't say all people don't respect nurses but I ahd so many rude people that it just burnt me out.
