Adam Lambert Not Sorry for Simulating Oral Sex at AMAs

Monday – November 23, 2009 – 10:39am

Adam Lambert is making no apologies for his racy performance during Sunday's American Music Awards.

While closing the show with his new single "For Your Entertainment," the American Idol alum, 27, simulated fellatio with a male dancer, kissed male keyboardist Tommy Ratliff, grabbed his crotch and flipped off the crowd. (According to Rolling Stone, Lambert didn't clear the kiss with anyone in advance; he told CNN the smooch happened "in the moment.")

His performance was edited for the west coast feed of the awards show.

See who the best dressed stars were at the AMAs last night!

"You know honestly, if I offended some people... it's apples and oranges. I'm not an artist that does things for every single person," he told Access Hollywood. "I believe in artistic freedom and expression, I believe in honoring the lyrics of a song, and those lyrics aren't really for everybody either."

He also said he considered editing his performance "discrimination."

"There's a big double standard, female pop artists have been doing things provocative like that for years, and the fact that I'm a male, and I'll be edited and discriminated against could be a problem," he explained.

Added Lambert, "People are scared and it's really sad, I just wish people could open their minds up and enjoy things, it's all for a laugh, it's really not that big of a deal."

Still, some fans and celebs don't agree.

See Adam Lambert and other stars who were honored at Us' Hot Hollywood party last week!

"Did Adam Lambert just grind some dude's head in his crotch... TO MY NIECE... GO TO BED NOW!" The View's Sherri Shepherd Twittered. "And did Adam Lambert slip the tongue to one of his dancers???? Whoa... Celibate woman here... turning off TV now..."

Tell Us: Do you think Lambert's performance was suitable for television?

It was beyond suitable, nobody complains about simulated sexual acts on Dancing with the Stars or any other show that has dancing on it. The rights of a performer to perform trump the right of a viewer to not have to get up and change the channel. Besides, wasn't it after 10pm? Shouldn't those who are too young to understand normally in bed? And don't you think it's less offensive than what half the talk show hosts on many news channels preach every day? This is blatant discrimination based on sexual orientation. If lady Gaga did it - she would be praised as being a bold and powerful woman, and she's openly bisexual. If you don't like what you see - change the channel - if your child is up at 10pm - and a show that has has previous situations - ie Madonna and Brittany - comes on, then it is your responsibility to be a parent and decide if you feel it's suitable for them or not. I daresay many of the viewers aged 13 to 17 probably engaged in a real - not simulated - sex act that day.

I'm not homophobic. I have a whole posey of gay male friends, but I feel like all that wasn't even necessary. MTV would've been a better format for that. Why the hell are you on ABC doing all that? People did get outraged over the Madonna kiss, it was all over the papers, tv, internet, but it was on a cable network, not network television. I didn't like the song nor the performance. Grabbing crotches, and kissing and trying to be controversial is so over-done already. Just do a great song and a great performance and I'll be happy. Stop throwing your sexuality in my face just to grab my attention. Adam has a great voice, but he needs to showcase his talent, not simulated sex-acts on stage. It's been done too much already!

Good for him! Of course some are shocked, etc, etc and appauled - homophobia at it's finest. The only reason there isn't the same complaints about a woman doing that is in homophobes minds women with women doesn't count since it's all for them...

I didn't see it, however I do not think it is appropriate for an onstage performance. I do believe he is entitled to creative freedom. I do agree that there is a double standard. Personally, even if it were a female, I would still believe that it would have been very inappropriate. Just my view on it.

Umm..whoa I didn't even know that occured. Hey, he's an artist, so he can do whatever he wants. As long as he's a good singer, he's good to me.

I think the AMA was taking on a racy tone from Janet's performance on down. Adam just got caught in the moment and went rogue. His lyrics stated he was turning up the heat, that things were going to get rough... like he was narrating. After his performance, I felt like I just got off a mind ride at an amusement park. I cringed, squirmed and gasped all on cue. Now I can't get the song out of my head. I have to buy the CD.

I think that Adam Lambert is right. If this was a girls performance and if she did exactly what Adam did I bet nobody would have said anything/make a big deal out of it. I give Adam all of my respects and I think that was the best performance I have ever saw. Good Job Adam!!

I think it shows where we are in the stream of time. 10 years ago, even 5 years ago a performance like that would have never made it on TV. They would have pulled the plug. People today have no morals and are proud of it. We live in a sickening society.

Adam Lambert is a HOG, If he was a gifted artist he would not have to perform such discussing acts on TV.
  • November 25, 2009 - 4:32pm Sakura Says:

Yes. If there are people who allow children to stay up late at night on a SUNDAY then thast their own fault. People need to accept others as they are and not take everything at face value. Love is Love no matter what and if people get u0pset over that then they should also be concerned about things like other female performers grabbing at their dancers male or female. I say Get over yourselves and quit being so racialist sexist etc etc etc

Let him think what he wants. I dont care. He didnt think anything was wrong with what went on during his AMA performance and some of us did. We are all allowed to have r own view pts. Mine & some others is that the simulating oral sex n other adult acts was inappropriate for a performance on the ama's on abc. And as for him being gay and kissing the guy I & some others dont have a problem with that (him being gay or that he kissed a guy).
  • November 25, 2009 - 1:50pm jennie jolie Says:

Was Adam on drugs? It sure seemed so. He acted like a dog in heat. His sexual exhibitions were disgusting and giving the finger to the audience at the end was his final disgraceful act. How can anyone defend him? HIs voice is good, but not great. Too much falsetto for me, but I do undertand some of you love that. My criticisms have nothing to do with him being gay. Homosexuality is the third sex and legitimate. But being a pervert is not.
  • November 25, 2009 - 1:43pm An American Says:

I say right on Greg Smith! I am so sick of the politically correct crap that even took a crown away from Carrie Prejean for saying what she believed and giving "her" opinion like she was asked
  • November 25, 2009 - 1:43pm martina Says:

He is just gross i don't need to see that crap on the tele keep it behind doors guys. And you are sure wrond about remembering his name like what he won't last a year and rightly so disgusting.
  • November 25, 2009 - 1:40pm Kelsey Says:

Oh, people, deal with it. He got a bit carried away, and I can see why people are upset - I'm not a huge fan of seeing ANYONE simulate oral sex on stage, thanks. However, he does have a point - who cares if he kissed another guy on stage? was everybody up in arms over Britney/Madonna? No, not really. Things just as bad/ worse have been done on those stages, but because they were between a girl and a guy, or even two girls, there wasn't nearly as much outrage about it. Cut down on the double standards.
