Aaron Eckhart: Heath Ledger Will Get Oscar Nod

 Noel Vasquez/Getty Images; Stephen Lovekin/Getty Images Aaron Eckhart thinks his late Dark Knight costar Heath Ledger, who portrayed The Joker, will receive an Oscar nod when the nominees are unveiled on Jan. 22. "I do. I don't know why I do," a Gucci-clad Eckhart told Usmagazine.com at the Critics' Choice Awards in Santa Monica, California. "I totally have no say whatsoever, but I do believe Heath is deserving of a nomination. I think he took a well-known character in movie history and made it his own and really resonated with the people." Look back on Heath Ledger's life. Ledger won a Critics' Choice Award for best supporting actor, which was accepted by the film's director Christopher Nolan on his behalf. "It would be wonderful for Chris Nolan and for Heath Ledger," Eckhart told Us. "I think they are absolutely deserving. I think the movie runs deep and it has Oscar merit to it. I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t think so. It’s a great script and I think people get out of the movie much more than an ordinary comic book movie, so we’ll see." I wonder what's going to happen to all these awards Heath is winning? I hope they give them to his parents to save for Matlida. As for his death, the corner's report says it was an accidental overdose caused by too many doctors prescribing too many pills without consulting eachother. If you ever saw him on TV talking about Matlida you would know that Heath would never leave her alone.

I'll try to be tactful here: Those people who want to criticize a deceased person who they NEVER personally knew are totally ignorant! On what do you base your comment about Mr. Ledger committing suicide? The media and tabloids? Tell me, did you know him? Do you know ANYTHING about him, except what you've heard and read second-hand?

i really hope he wins. his performance made the movie less of an action flick and more of a psychological thriller. he was amazing, and he totally deserves this. he BECAME the joker, and while watching it , i totally forgot that it was heath ledger playing him, and i was just enthralled with the character.

i hope he gets nominated and wins as well. it was a great ensamble of actors but the joker really pulled the whole movie together while just being a supporting role. anyone following in jack nicholson's footsteps who gets this much recognition deserves to win. so tragic how he died before all of his talent was shown. seems like he was a really genuine person.

Only a complete idiot would think he killed himself. Look at the way he died, if he wanted to kill himself why would he choose a method that has a 1% chance of working. Please do a little research, he died from the mixture of sleeping pills and axiety pills, he took the right dosage of each but had an allergic reaction. If he wanted to kill himself he would not have taken the right dosages of pills.

I saw the Dark Knight for the first time the other night on rented DVD. I was absolutely amazed at Heath's performance as the Joker. The entire movie was impressive with the brilliant cast. But Heath embodied that character and you truly despised him in the film. He was a once in a lifetime actor and I truly hope he receives an Oscar nod. Heath Ledger and the director, Christopher Nolan both deserve special recognition. However, I don't agree with the comments below. Heath Ledger did not commit suicide. That has been addressed and answered completely and honestly. I hope that Heath's family is able to take home an Oscar on his behalf and in loving remembrance of him this year!
