seriously, america ferrera, you need to see the real world. Do bad girls watch yopur ugly betty show and suddenly becomes good? haha, very funny. You are talking about positive influence your show brought to young girls, yet there's sexual scenes in Ugly Betty as well. Seeriously, why bother slamming people, Ferrera? and your "I'll just go shoot and be professional and not make any friends" is your thoughts, so I'm not saying you are wrong, but many actresses have that thought and not say it. Maybe you are looking for more press time?

By the way, real classy of being bored when during Sisterhood of Traveling Pants Interview, when Blake was asked about Gossip Girl. Your reaction is priceless and showed your true self and not at least act nice on tv. Maybe if they asked about Ugly Betty, you will be more than happy to tell your experiences. So, bottom line is, don't bring your cattiness into the world while trying to justify it, because this makes you a little fake.

America Ferrera thinks Gossip Girl conditions girls to be mean? Um, didn't Lindsay Lohan and Naomi Campbell guest star on Ugly Betty? I'm sure they played really sweet, non-backstabbing characters that added to the wholesome positive-ness that is Ugly Betty. Because a show centered on someone known as "Ugly Betty" is so much less mean-spirited than Gossip Girl.

For one thing, why would anybody be jealous of Gossip Girl, considering how that show is tanking in the ratings? I love the show, but people who are saying America Ferrera, an Emmy winner now no less, is jealous of Blake Lively or Gossip Girl, is pretty well misinformed. And going the 'looks' route is just plain catty.

Maybe because despite the show may be tanking in the ratings but it gets a lot of hype and press which has given Blake Lively and the other main female lead Leighton Meester a lot of press. It's doubtful America would be jealous because she has a successful show has well but it is possible that anyone would be jealous of Gossip Girl and Blake Lively (like unknown actresses trying to get their big break) because the show and it's cast gets buzz. I hate the show but I'd be jealous if I was an unknown actress.

America's lectures about female solidarity vs. backstabbing seem a tad hypocritical, given that she was making faces at Blake when she thought no one was looking during a televised interview last month. The additional digs at Blake's show in this month's Seventeen are making her seem sour and resentful about her costar's success.

She's right. We are being conditioned by the media to be mean. One of the worst offenders is TMZ. That is the epitomy of mean. Don't let kids watch that stuff because it will effect how they treat others.

It's true; it's not just girls that are nasty it is women as well!!! Mean mean mean. If you have any perceived advantage they'll jump you like wild lionesses stalking a gazelle. Overall women seem to have become more insecure, not less. It's shameful. Truthfully, the crazed catty women on "Ugly Betty" (not to mention the name of the show itself) put me off of it the first year. But as one person wrote, it is to show how pointless & cruel such behavior is. The other shows (GG, BH90210) elevate nasty behavior as the way to be popular. It's disgusting! No wonder kids younger and younger are killing themselves. We live in wicked, cruel times.

Also, nobody I know or have ever known is half as mean as Blair Waldorf or Chuck Bass, and though GG makes it clear that we're supposed to see their behaviour as bad, a lot of younger girls would learn that this is what 'rich, cool' girls do. In Ugly Betty, the catty ones are mature adults, most of whom are clearly the 'villains' of the piece. The show is at least trying to show that the cattiness is shallow and pointless, while on GG it's shown to be part of the core of what makes the characters 'cool' - and, sadly, to tweens 'cool' is good.

Thirdly, I don't care whether you think America Ferrera looks like a hippopotamus. 90% of the comments here are unbelievable, no matter who you are talking about. Just because you are 'defending' Blake Lively (who can, you know, defend herself) doesn't mean you're justified in these downright disgusting rants against a woman you do not know.

First of all, it doesn't sound like she's jealous. And the headline "America SLAMS The Hills, Gossip Girl" is quite a stretch... All she is saying is that these kind of shows are showing catty high school girls when we should probably be having shows about how to create good friends and open our minds to new people. (ie. "ugly betty" working in the modeling world...) Think about all of the crap girls go through... The story of the Texas cheerleaders, the Myspace incident where a MOM was involved and the girl ended up committing suicide... Those of you calling her "fat" and "ugly" are just as bad - you're the kind of people that are creating the hatred in this world. What makes you any better than anyone else?

Ugly Betty is just as shallow as gossip girl. Jealous much America? You live in the real world, get used to it fatty.

I think her message is very on target. She is not fat, she is healthy looking and represents normal people. Most of us are on average around a size 8-10 not a zero or a 2. Sad that you all think that 8-10 is fat.
