Gee everyone is soo rude here. But i think your right we souldnt be paying for it and he should be paying more attention on the countrie rather than his house. No one ever even sees it anyway! actually think of it this way, if i were living in te white house i would actually want an interior decorator to make it a bit more homey. His poor kids have to adapt too so as long as he is not using our tax money, let the new first family bee.

Historically, more Americans are better off financially and the economy is better when a Democrat runs the White House. Republicans favor wealth in the hands of the few--the large businesses, which will never serve most Americans. The disappearance of the middle class should be of huge concern to all Americans...wake up, brothers & sisters!

Also, while Republicans claim to be "pro-life," how many women's children has George Bush sent to their deaths in war? War-mongering is not "pro-life." Unborn babies are not the only lives ethical people should be concerned about.

150 million for his inauguration?? He can keep his "change"....it's no wonder he wouldn't describe the change before he was elected.

Alot of people kill me how they bash other people. Obama is the Elect Pres. get over it, he is going to spend the money with or without your approval! I think it's more to it then being mad about him redecorating his new home. I would rather his family hire a decorator because then he can get started on bigger issues at hand. Come on people this spending money when the new Pres. gets in office has been around for so many of them, What makes Obama any different? Yes, we are in a ression! Yes, People are struggling! Yes, It can be spent in a different way! But it's either going to sit there and collect dust because if he doesn't use it another Pres will! Why not put that money back into the economy. This is my Personal opinion, People are so mad about him spending the money because he doesn't have the same skin color of the ones that spend the money before him! Ohhh I forgot to mention I didn't vote for him but I'm not going to bad mouth him for what he wants to do with the house he has to live in for 4 years! Yes change has come so get over it!

I dont understand whts the big deal about Obama spending money to fix up a place where he and his family will have to live for at least the next 4 yrs?? Hum, I dont think thts the real issue! So what he's spending twice the amount our previous president spent on decorating, hell BUSH absolutely made up for that by robbing the whole dam country blind! BUT NO ONES MAD ABOUT THAT THO HUH! The man was elected for a reason and its because people got tired of the lies (just think about it)! Now lets give the man a chance to hang his self (if that is to happen .. i personally think he will get this country out of the slump its in)!! And thats my personal opinion!! If not, time will tell! Yeah we know...this mag kisses the very ground Obama, Ayres and Resko walk on and so does most of Hollywood for that matter. Obama wants to send billions of dollars to feed third world countries when he could be using that money (our tax money) to feed starving people here. Well it tech is out of his pocket. Yes, tax payers pay his salary. But the same goes for every other state, local or federal employee.
So tech, we pay for them too.
And if you want to get even more tech. If you work at a store & someone buys from it, they are helping to pay you too.

The money goes back into our economy and the stores where the stuff is bought from..have you turned over a piece of furniture or anything you buy in a store...where is it made???? Those dishes *I am sure* are for when the white house has formal parties, when foriegn leaders come over, ect. So yes I am ok with that.
It is there job to represent America, so yes I expect them to use the best.
The store makes money even if the goods are made elsewhere, do you really now know this?

Let me ask you this: Have you ever had to live somewhere that made you feel uncomfortable? Or sleep somewhere you didn't feel at home?
Would you want to live somewhere that doesn't feel like home?
It is stressfully, it effects sleep, mood & ablity to make decisions.
We need a president that can stay focused & feel comfortable enough to run this country.
If it were special treatment for Obama I would be with ya, but its not. It is a tradition & I respect that.

The Lincoln's were around during a recession. Mrs. Lincoln spent over the allowed amount of money & the congress paid for the rest*Lincoln wanted to pay for it out of pocket, but congree wouldn't allow it* & get what? The economy bounced back..In other words this money if anything helps the economy. Where do you think it goes? It goes to the stores where the stuff is bought from.
Dispite what ppl on this site tell you, if it is not spent, it will NOT go to anything else. The money has been set aside, no matter what it will stay in that fund. It is also used to fix things, for example if the carpet gets a hole in it, the money will go to pay for that too or a hole in the wall..ect.
Should the be forced to live in the same style as the Bush's? They seem to have very different styles. Laura Bush likes things to be classic, & the Obama's want a "family friendly" space, with art from around the world. Nothing wrong with either, they are just different.

Abe Lincolns wife hired an interior designer, they were going thru a recession & a war. She even went overbudget.
Should we "bash" her too?

The only reason the Bush's didn't hire one was bc Laura Bush likes to do that kind of thing. She was big on it, she redid some of the main rooms.

Who gives a rats A** how they decorate their home,I think everone has the right to decorate their new digs! It doesnt surprise me she has to hire a decorator because the women has no taste.
Im sory it just makes me sick to know they are spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on the inauguration, I think they need to be a little more modest since half of America has no jobs and the economy is spiralling out of control! I guarantee you wont see Michelle wearing JCrew anymore. Its just a matter of time before their true colors shine thru.
I would feel the same way if MCCAIN was in office and they were spending that much.
