Brad Pitt's Make It Right Foundation has now raised enough money to build 90 homes in Hurricane Katrina-ravaged New Orleans - nearing its goal of financing 150 homes - the actor announced at a charity reception Monday.

As of late August, the foundation had funds to build 84 houses, but at Monday's reception, Pitt and his board members announced six more new homes are now in the works. They also unveiled a donation from the American Idol Foundation.

Dressed in a black suit, gray scarf and a large blue hat, Pitt "was gorgeous," an attendee tells Usmagazine.com. "It was incredible that he was not sweating in the New Orleans heat with the suit, scarf and hat!"

After the reception, Pitt dined with board members at Delmonico's -- one of Emeril's restaurant -- which is about two blocks from the foundation's new headquarters.

"Angelina was not with him," the source tells Us. "She must have been with all those kids."

Pitt -- who has shelled out $5 million from his own pocket -- first unveiled the project last December on the Today show.

"I'm hoping we can ... expand all over New Orleans," he told Ann Curry.

Asked if this project were his top priority, even above making movies, Pitt said his family comes first, but "that love of my family brings me here."

In June, Angelina Jolie and Pitt denied reports that they've sold their $3.5 million mansion in the French Quarter.
