Cate Blanchett: My Husband Would Divorce Me if I Had Plastic Surgery

The actress -- who currently stars in The Curious Case of Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt -- tells Vanity Fair: "I haven't done anything, but who knows. Andrew [Upton] said he'd divorce me if I did anything." See photos of the biggest splits of 2008. But that doesn't mean she'd never mess with her famous face. "I'm not a spokesperson against the world of injectables," The 39-year-old actress says. "If you grow up in an environment where your mother gets you a boob job when you turn 18, what hope is there? But I didn’t grow up in that world. "The reason I went to train as an actor was that I was interested in it for the long haul," she adds. "You can become very self-obsessed, but you've got to keep looking outward." Blanchett says her body isn't the same after the birth of their three sons: Dashiell, 7; Roman, 3 and Ignatius, 7 months. "When you've had children, your body changes; there's history to it. I like the evolution of that history; I'm fortunate to be with somebody who likes the evolution of that history." Check out photos of stars post-baby bods. "I think it's important to not eradicate it. I look at someone's face and I see the work before I see the person...." she adds. See the extreme measures celebs have gone through for a role. Plus, Blanchett says plastic surgery doesn't stave "off the inventible" aging process. "If you're doing it out of fear, that fear's still going to be seen through your eyes," she says. "The windows to your soul, they say." Upton, a playwright, doesn't mind his wife's looks, Blanchett says, although he doesn't focus on them. "I'm not a trophy. He likes the vessel, but he also wants to make sure the vessel is full." Blanchett says she wouldn't rule out having more children either. "Who knows? Don't close those doors. The world is very overpopulated, but we do make nice ones," she says. "They all look like Andrew. To say he has dominant genes would be an understatement." Check out photos of the babies of the year. In addition to expanding her brood, Blanchett also has a retirement plan. "I think I just want to garden -- or kill some plants, in my case," she says. She's commenting on otherss having surgery because deep down inside she is miffed that she was born busted. She isn't pretty so she has nothing to lose in wanting to keep a pretty face longer with surgery. Cate Blanchett is ugly and anyone who says she isn't is ugly themselves.

Cate is beautiful AND she is an awesome actress! I don't think her husband is ugly. I think there are a lot of HATERS on this webpage. Just because her husband doesn't look like a "movie star" doesn't mean that he is butt ugly. I've seen A LOT worse. I think they make a very cute couple, inside and out. They seem like they really, truly love and care about each other and that is more beautiful than anything else in a relationship!

OMG, I totally agree on these issues with plastic surgery. Those actresses act like they are born beautiful but they are SO not! One good example. I saw JESSICA ALBA before/after surgery on E! one day and was totally shocked because she looked so different! with her flat nose, big jaw, smaller eyes on before surgery picture.... My gosh, how can someone would go through all the surgeries and said" I was looking like this all my life( When she was picked as the most stylish actress in hollywood). The actresses go through all kinds of plastic surgery to get a part when they can't even act. She had some serious jaw surgery that her face inhumanely looks on TV, too small face to fit or look good on TV. And so many little girls compare themselves to her like she was "born" that way. No wonder why those little girls feel so insecure. I have seen pictures of S. Johhanson, Halle Berry with different nose on before/after surgery show but they looked still beautiful before the surgery. But some actresses are willing to go through "Extreme makeover" to get parts on some stupid movies. But JAlba is rated as the most beautiful actress ever. My gosh, she was so ugly before surgery. Every time I see her on TV, I could still picture her ugly face before the surgery. Who doesn't look good if they have money to get jobs done on their faces? Natural beauty does definately worth something to celebrate.

I have had enough plastic surgery for me and Cate. If she doesn't want to have it, great. But I'm going into my old age kicking and screaming and doing EVERYTHING I can to keep from looking haggy. It's like those chicks that don't want the epidural b/c they want to be natural. EFF that. Bring on the drugs. God gave doctors the know-how to do this crap, why not use your good sense and get 'er done?

She is not a traditional beauty but she has something really unique that makes her stand out and have charisma and style. Hollywood likes every actress to be a cookie-cutter of all the others. I would like to be as self-confident as Kate is. But her husband is really really not good looking. Too bad he's got the dominant genes.

You know before I saw her on Oprah talking about her new movie I thought she was awful. I didn't think she was the "typical" hollywood actress. She wasn't cute, she had an accent, and I thought she was annoying HOWEVER... AFTER I saw her on Oprah, she seems likes such a classy lady. And she has words of wisdom. All these other ska*k "actresses" can learn alot from her. I'm sorry I used to think bad stuff about you Cate, because honestly you seem quite humble, and knowledgeable, and you are beautful.

Wow. Look at her on the cover of Vanity Fair. That cover could be straight out of the 50s. She is very classic looking. I had no idea she was only 39. Not because she looks old but because she is so commanding and there is so much maturity there. She seems like she was born in the wrong era sometimes. But that's what makes a truly great actress. She's not exactly our perception of beautiful in this day and age but she is stunning. Truly stunning.

To me it didn't sound like she was giving "beauty advice" at all, it sounded like she was saying how she felt about plastic surgery and I think she hit the nail on the head! She didn't say "I'm perfect I don't need it" she's saying she's happy with her body and she doesn't WANT it! That's how everyone should feel! Botox can take away your wrinkles for a few months but in the end you will get old and your skin will sag and unless you want to look like that freakish cat-looking woman or Joan Crawford then people should just learn to except themselves! Good for you Cate you are indeed beautiful inside and out!

Cate, get over yourself. You are a good actress but you are not pretty. Not by a long shot. Perhaps you should consider doing something to make yourself look better instead of spending your time commenting on what others have done/will do about theirs. That is a sure sign of someone who thinks they're better than others. If she wanted to comment on this a simple, It's not something I'd make the choice to do for myself, would've sufficed.
