Chace Crawford: "I Have to Overcome Gayface"

 Amy Sussman/Getty Images for IMG Since rising to fame on CW's Gossip Girl, Chace Crawford says he's been slapped with lots of labels. "Model turned actor, dime a dozen, eye candy, doesn't know what he's doing ... and Perez Hilton says I have 'gayface,'" Crawford, 23, says in November's Details. "So on top of everything else, I have to overcome gayface." Growing up in the wealthy Dallas suburb of Plano, Crawford says he wasn't anything like his Gossip character, the preppy Nate Archibald. "I'm pretty sure I wasn't having sex with any cougars," he says, referring to his current storyline on the show. The most "mind-blowingly inappropriate" thing he did in high school? "An idiotic glass-punching thing" that left him with a scar on one wrist, he tells Details. See then-and-now photos of the Gossip Girl cast! He moved on to college to study broadcast journalism at California's Pepperdine University, but dropped out. He briefly worked a valet (Suge Knight was a client!) before moving on to modeling. But being handled and positioned made him feel "like an animal," he says. When he signed on for Gossip, he says he wasn't sure the show would last. So he asked co-star -- and Drew Barrymore fling -- Ed Westwick to be his roommate. "I thought, 'Let's pool our money and get something good,'" Chace says. "I didn't even know if the show was going to last." He has six more seasons to go under his contract. "It never really gets frustrating," he says. "Sure, sometimes you just want to have a scene where you're drunk or having fun. I'm hoping for a fall from grace for Nate. Five years from now, I better have murdered someone!" "Once when we were on location on the Upper East Side," he says, "these girls came up, you know, with the Blair headbands and their skirts hiked up higher than they should be, and I said to them, 'So, are you looking at colleges?' and they said, 'No, we're in seventh grade.'" There will always be individuals in this world who try to knock down someone from a distance. Way to go. Chace Crawford couldn't have controlled the design of his face before birth any more than Perez Hilton could. IMHO, Chace was simply responding to a ridiculous comment with a dry sense of humor. Clearly.

chace - I have morals - but I'll gladly take a huge paycheck and play a sleezy character and remove my clothes, just like I DID in modeling for cash... love it when these people say they have morals yet still do this crap. and yes, I've turned it down - there are people out there in the world that do. what caught me was the title 'gayface' I found that rather inappropriate of him to say he has to 'overcome', even if he was called it. what a dweeb he sounds like, poor chap.

OMG, I'm a HUGE Gossip Girl fan!!! And an even bigger Chace fan!! He is so gorgeous, and OMG those eyes!! Way sexy. He is soooo not gay, and he does not have gayface!!! He's talented, and I agree that he does seem very sweet in every interview I have read about him. He's quite literally the perfect man!!! Or at least as close as they come! Chace seems to be one of those rarities in Hollywood where, not only is he absolutely breathtakingly gorgeous on the outside, but he's equally beautiful on the inside. Everything that I've ever heard about him is that he's a sweet, friendly, down-to-earth guy who's got his head on straight in a crazy business. I hope that he always stays that way; proof positive that nice guys can and do finish first.

Chace seems like such a cool guy. He seems to know what's going on with the show, and never cuts anyone down who are against it. I think he is good looking, but eventually people will see how talented he really is. All everybody ever looks at is his face, but I think he's really talented. :)

I dont think he has a gayface, not every good looking guy has to be gay. He can just be good looking. He is one of the main characters, and I love what they have done with him, i think they should go on a bad streak kind of like serena, but other than that the whole show is great. Post new comment |
