My grandmother & mother both had to have a breast removed, so I am very sacred I will be next. I hope & pray Christina has a long & cancer free life.

I NEVER said she removed them for publicity. I said I didn't understand why she did it. When I was informed that there was a good chance it could have spread to the other breast, I admitted I was wrong.

What I ACTUALLY said was that to women dealing with worse cases of breast cancer, the way she keeps selling her story when she has been treated and has the luxury to surgery may seem insincere after a while.

that is what my 59 year old sister had-doctor's don't recognize it in time usually-symptoms different-very rare -doesn't show in mammogram or ultrasounds

she was diagnosed at stage 4, about 6 months after the beginning of seeing doctors and them telling her she was fine-just a bit of inflammation-like maybe small infection in the breast!

she died after 4 years-she had a mastectomy, the strongest chemo & radiation and it was back immediately!

had she not have been so ill with a bad heart maybe they would have tried to remove the second breast at the same time-because of this type of cancer it makes sense-

but here came back immediately and metastasized to her skin and other organs

so ladies, instead of being ignorant about all the kinds of breast cancer we need to educate ourselves-know the earliest symptoms and demand breast specialists if we suspect something-greater possibility they have seen the type you might have before and not waste valuable time

You stated that you didn't understand why she had both breasts removed & implied it was not needed. Well, since she has the gene the high change of her getting it back MEANT she didnt what SHE needed to do.
In fact you even stated she had "no reason" Well the reason was just given to you.

When I am simply expressing my opinion, how could I possibly be ignorant? Just because I see things differently than you do, that does not make me ignorant. I'm not trying to say anything bad about Christina, I'm just pointing out that women with worse cases of breast cancer and little medical assistance may think she is selling her story for publicity.

My bc was caught on a mammogram (no lump for me or my doctors to feel). Even though it was caught early, I didn't get clear margins after 2 lumpectomies and opted for the bilateral prophylactic mastectomy. It was a hard decision, but the best one for me. I didn't ever want to worry about bc again. The statistics showed I didn't need chemo, since my cancer was so small. That was 2 1/2 years ago. Unfortunately, 2 weeks ago I was told it had spread to my sternum. This time, I'm going through chemo and whatever else I need to. Christina, I applaud your decision and just want you to know that you must continue to be vigilant. My recurrence didn't show up in the regular bloodwork. Because of Elizabeth Edwards sharing the story of her bc recurrence (pain occurring in her hip), when I had a bad cold/cough and started feeling pain in my chest that didn't go away, I knew enough to tell my oncologist. Good luck to you, Christina. Women everywhere appreciate it when someone with huge name recognition shares their bc story. It reminds us all that it can happen to anyone at any time, and it reminds women to get our mammograms and do regular self-examination. I'm sure you've saved lives by sharing your story...

Romy you are rude and ignorant aside from being insensitive. She is just trying to show that this disease can strike any woman even beautiful celebs, and that you can make difficult choices and triumph. For women like Christina, keeping her other breast would have been like holding onto a ticking time bomb. I know...one of my best friends just had to have this done at age 30. Her cancer was somewhat more advanced and she had to have chemo. They told her that by having a double mastectomy her chances of a reoccurance dropped dramatically.

They found out she had a gene that is known to cause breast cancer. So therefore the likely hood of her getting breast cancer again was high.
She was being pro-active in her fight against breast cancer.

What would you rather her do? Have to get mammograms every 4 months & always worring about the day her cancer will come back? What if it comes back worse? What if it spreads? She did what she(and I agree) thought was right. She can now life carefree, not worring about her breast cancer coming back.

Talk about strength! What an amazing woman she is. Sharing her story has gone to the hearts of many and will make us rethink how we perceive our lives. She is as beautiful on the inside as she is on the outside.
