I'm glad he's okay it was sad to watch but he did a good job!

Dick Clark "Thankful" to Host New Year's Show

![]() Heidi Gutman/ABC Even though Dick Clark has been ringing in the New Year from Times Square for 36 years, he tells Entertainment Tonight he still looks forward to it. The 79-year-old -- who suffered a stroke in 2004 -- says the gig is "not a job. "I am one of the fortunate ones who survived and have been minimally impaired, so I'm just thankful I'm still able to enjoy this once-a-year treat of bringing in the New Year," Clark says about bouncing back from the stroke. "Obviously, I'm not able to be as actively involved as I used to be out on the street, up on a platform and interacting with the crowds in Times Square," Clark tells ET. "Thank goodness my friend Ryan Seacrest is able to handle that end of the activity on the show these days." Seacrest tells ET that Clark is "doing great. "He's here in New York City. He really looks forward to this night - it's a special night," Seacrest adds. "He's built this evening in Times Square, so we're excited to have him back."
