Ellen Pompeo has babies on the brain.

"It's a huge lifestyle change, and I take that very seriously," she tells the October issue of Allure.

"We enjoy our life so much," she adds. "We go to Europe and sleep in. So when I have the baby, I won't feel like we've missed any fun, reckless times together, like staying up all night drinking champagne and having sex until five in the morning and not having to get up until two in the afternoon. But I've got to get on it, because the clock is ticking."

When Pompeo, 38, quietly, wed record producer Chris Ivery last November, she wore a simple black dress by Yves Saint Laurent and black Costume National boots.

"I get to dress up all the time," Pompeo says. "I completely understand women wanting a wedding, because most people don't get to dress up in gorgeous dresses and have their hair and makeup done. I, however, am fortunate enough that I get to put on beautiful dresses and makeup and jewels all the time."

A year after dating, the pair wed last November in a brief ceremony at New York's City Hall. To celebrate, the low-key duo hit a Knicks game.

"I didn't wear a wedding ring that night because I didn't want it to leak out," Pompeo tells Allure. "My manager went to Cartier and bought two bands so we would have something to exchange at the ceremony."

Meanwhile, Pompeo is plenty busy with Grey's Anatomy. The actress has a contract with the hit medical drama which means two more years of playing surgical intern Meredith Grey.

"People love to watch a train wreck, I suppose," she says of her character.

What advice would Pompeo give her character Meredith?

"There are other fish in the sea. Plenty. Just move on."

Pompeo divulges that she was never a fan of medical shows and was shocked when Grey's Anatomy became a hit.

"I never watched one episode of ER," she tells Allure. "When I did the pilot, I thought, 'I can't stand medical shows. This will never get on.'"
