George Clooney has hung up his scrubs for good.

He has no plans to return to ER, his rep says.

Producers for the NBC doc drama were "optimistic" they could lure the A-lister (who shot to fame as Dr. Ross) for the show's 15th and final season.

"We have a really good storyline for every character from the past," executive producer David Zabel told TV Guide.

But Clooney's rep tells Reuters: "He is on record as saying he is not coming back. It is something he has already done. He is busy making movies."

Some familiar faces will be returning: Former cast members Anthony Edwards and Noah Wyle.

Edwards - whose character, Dr Mark Greene, died in 2002 - will appear in flashback form.

Wyle, meanwhile, is due to appear in four episodes as Dr John Carter.

The long-running series will end with a two-hour finale in May 2009, preceded by a one-hour retrospective.
