![]() Kevin Mazur/WireImage.com Ahead of her 36th birthday on Saturday, actress Gwyneth Paltrow is rediscovering her family's roots by experimenting with favorite recipes. "My dad [Bruce] was an insane pancake maker," the co-host of PBS' Spain on the Road Again said at the launch party at the Queen Sophia Spanish Institute in NYC last Sunday. "Actually, I'm just working on a recipe right now I'm adapting to make mine slightly more healthy," she said. See photos of Gwyneth Paltrow's style evolution. The mom to Apple, 4, and Moses, 2, has another cooking trick up her sleeve. "We have a wood-burning pizza oven in our garden," she said, referring to her home in London with husband Chris Martin. "I'm using that oven a lot," she added. "Breads and pizzas and you can cook anything in there -- it's amazing." See photos of celeb kids snacking. Paltrow's culinary tour of Spain with chef Mario Batali, Mark Bittman and Claudia Bassols is documented on the PBS series and in a new book. One trade-off for the trip? She gained weight. "In Spain they eat so late," Paltrow explained. "And so I would eat a huge dinner and drink way too much wine and go to sleep and then I wouldn't be able to do full exercises because I would be in the car all day. So there we go."
