Hillary Clinton: Palin "Composed, Effective" During Debate

Hillary Clinton is weighing in on Thursday's vice presidential debate.

In a phone interview Friday on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show, she said, "[Democratic Sen.] Joe Biden was great. He put forward a flawless performance. I, like probably everybody else watching, was so moved by the authentic grief that caught in his throat when he talked about his own personal experience." (During the debate, Biden got choked up while recalling a car accident that killed his wife and daughter and injured his sons.)

"I was very up and happy about Joe, whom I've known for a long time," Clinton added. "I thought the debate was another good way for people to help themselves make up their minds."

As for Republican Gov. Sarah Palin, "I think she's very good. I always thought she would do well," Clinton said. "It's amazing. She's been thrust into the national spotlight with very little preparation.

"All things considered, you saw a very composed and effective debater last night," Clinton said.

Despite Palin's performance Thursday, Clinton said, "the real issue is, who is better for America?

"The McCain/Palin ticket, as we saw last night, is offering the same prescription that helped us get where we are today," she said.

Asked if it was tough to watch the debates last night (given that she was once a close presidential candidate), Clinton laughed.

"It's not hard for me to watch somebody else debate, but it's always hard to watch my husband and watch myself," she said. "To watch somebody else... I enjoy it. I get a lot out of it."

Later in the interview, Clinton (who will attend an Obama fundraiser this weekend) continued to praise the Democratic presidential hopeful.

"I think, again, last night Joe and Barack conveyed a sense of mastery and expertise that we have to have in our next Democratic White House," she said. "I am really hopeful we're going to elect strong Democrats."

Before the interview ended, Clinton urged "everybody to get involved and understand how much is at take in this election. Come out and support our ticket."

i am an irish american and i was so upset by mccain's referring to obama as
"that one" during the last pres. debate. he also refused to shake hands with his rival and basically in my mind couldn't come to terms with the fact that he possibly will lose the white house to a black man. his smile is devilish and that menace grim brings shivers to my soul as to his intentions. he wants to stay in iraq for 100 years and believes economy is sound. he wants to increase spending in iraq and it already is at 5 billion dollars A MONTH!!!!!!! not even including afghanistan, which is about 800 million a month and also inc. other defense spending about another 200 million, so totaling 6 billion dollars a MONTH (there are approximately 6 billion ppl on earth) so that is equivalent to giving 6 billion people or everyone on earth 1 dollar a month which is helpful to the dire and desperate poor people in other nations... that money 6 billion a month or 72 billion a year for the 5 years of the war..the calculations are sad and painful to make considering how that money could have saved the lives of americans, veterans, and other poor people around the world. 72 billion a year to kill people and to fight in a country that did not attack us. i am hesitant to call the wars in afghanistan and iraq wars they are more like invasions (part. iraq). my grandfather was a wwII war vet and he always said a war is not justified unless you're willing to send your firstborn there? are you willing to send your firstborn to iraq? b/c you never know with mccain as president a draft could be instituted since number of troops is decreasing desperately and he believes the situation in iraq is dangerous. we all know mccain/palin's preferred method of resolution is war.

Good Lord some people are seriously misinformed. Democrats got the US in this mess! They pushed and pushed for people that have TERRIBLE credit to get financed and then these people couldn't pay back their notes. McCain was begging for these loans to stop. This is what happened...you give people with terrible lines of credit, mortgages that they don't understand-like ARMS, and then they don't pay them back, the banks have too many bad debts and then they go under. McCain pushed to stop this.
Obama wants more taxes taken from people...like 28% on ALL HOME SALES (Not just capital gains taxes). That kills people's retirement plans because we can obviously not count on social security. How could you say we have a free market economy, when there are so many monopolies? There is no room for competition anymore. All the rules that were designed for a free economy, has been eroded due to deregulation.

There are 300 million people in this country, and the only way the GOP can distract you from the more pressing issues that are affecting nearly every man, woman, and child in the country is by making you feel safe and protected when you really aren't. The nearly 3000 people we lost in 9/11 were followed by another 4000 American soldiers in a war that has YET to bring the most responsible person to justice. Sure, that made sense. Most of the terrorists were from Saudi Arabia, and Bin Laden is in Afghanistan, so where do we send the lion's share of our military? Why, to Iraq, of course, at the tune of 500 million dollars a day. It's no wonder our economy is tanking. Republicans love to spread the fear of terrorism because some people will agree to almost anything when they think their lives are in danger, and that is how the GOP gets your vote. We need new leadership with actual competence, accountability, and a thorough understanding of the REAL issues that face most Americans - affordable health care for every person lacking it, a turnaround in our economy, energy independence, and improvements in our schools. The McCain/Palin team is totally out of touch and do not know how to resolve these problems effectively.
