Go Johnny!!!!!!! I'd take 1% off that. It's not JD's fault about the economy. He gives to charities. Does his part for the world. We are the ones that put him in demand. That's how Hollywood salaries come about. Johnny is bankable. Who says he might not even donate most of it. I would trust him better to do good with it than many movie execs. 10 to 20 % usually goes to manager, than another 10 usually goes to an agent. Between manager and agent you can already subtract 11 million than comes taxes. Albeit, it's still a lot of money, but I think like many have stated don't blame Depp for the state pf the economy. Blame lenders, banks, government, or possibly ourselves for spending way beyond our means. Yep, personal responsibility.

Is Johnny worth this kind of money ? I say YES. After all if some one offered it to you,wouldnt you take it ? All I would have to say is where do I sign up and when do we start filming? These people knew they could not aford to buy a house that was way out of there price range.If you can not aford a $1000 a month house payment now then how are you going to pay it two or three years from now? Is a family member going to pass away and leave you millions, are you going to hit the lottery ? I dont think so.These people knew they couldnt afford these houses but yet they went and bought them any way.And these mortgage lenders knew the same thing.I say good for you Johnny and enjoy every penny.He is the best looking Pirate you would ever laid a pair of eyes too.If only he was mine,OH MY!

It is a lot of money. But hey, it was offered and he accepted. I don't think there is ONE person that wouldn't take the money. It's not Johnny's fault the economy is so bad. To those that are complaining...if I gave you a check for that amount, would you take it? Yeah, that's what I thought.

With our economy in the tank and people everywhere throwing fits over executives getting rich, why are so many of you fine with this ridiculous amount of money to a star? Salaries like this are insane - for anyone. I will not be seeing this movie until it hits the TV screen, that's for sure.

Taking in the world wide ticket sales; tv movie right sales; and dvd sales, each of the Pirate movies have earned over 1-BILLION dollars. (this is not counting money made from merchandise sales. Johnny is the one who created the character of Jack. His pay for this new movie (assuming it also makes at least 1 billion dollars), is 5-1/2 percent of the gross. Not an excessive amount.

Yea, the economy sucks..but honestly.
I am not rich but I am doing just fine in this "economic crisis" it seems to me the ppl suffering are mostly those who couldn't really afford what they have to begin with.
Simple solution: buy only what you can afford!

I love him, but no one is worth that kind of money for one film. I wonder what the other popular actors on the movie will make. He is wonderful, but that is just CRAZY!

I've always thought that actors, athletes, etc. have been paid way too much over the years. In order to pay such salaries the fans have to pay higher ticket prices. Pretty soon the fans won't be able to afford the tickets and it won't make any difference. In this day and age of our economy I see people eating and trying to buy gas as a bigger priority than going to a movie or ball game.

Whose governemnt is going to get his tax money? France or the US.

Johnny Depp has nothing to do with the economy. He is an actor who makes his company a ton of money.
I don't see you all complaining about the crap movies that are put out and these non talent actors and actress making a ton of money.
Depp has always faces harsh critics since he first hit the screen and will always have his group of haters; but to tie this in to the nation that is stupid. Look at the money his films pull in Disney is smart having Depp in your movie is like a sure thing you will make money and why not get paid the big bucks. At least depp's movies are great and for those that need something to hate they will hat Depp no matter what.

You know, Johnny isn't the only actor earning vast amounts of money like this. It might well be more than any other actor has earned for one film, I don't know, but it's only hearsay anyway and somebody has to have the top salary at the end of the day. If you've ever met Johnny or know anything about him, you'll know he's one of the kindest, most humble, caring, giving people on the face of this planet. If anybody deserves it, he does (not forgetting of course that he'll lose a huge chunk of it to taxes anyway). Johnny isn't in it for the money. Recently, he took over part of the completion of one of the final roles to be played by Heath Ledger, after he died before he could complete it, in The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus - he refused his salary and instead gave it to Heath's family. Enough said. Should he actually earn that much? Who knows. But one thing is for sure - he is securing for his family the best future anybody could hope for, and at the end of the day that is all he really wants.

Off course he's worth it. He's made billions for Disney.

All entertainers be it athletes or musicians or actors earn ludicrous amounts. At least I can still afford to go to the movies which is not true with pro games nor big venue concerts.

JD is not being greedy. As far as we know, Disney is offering and he is accepting. Wouldn't you? And how is it his fault that the economy is in turmoil? Do you expect him to ring doorbells and hand out money just because he has it and you don't? This movie won't be released for 3-4 years anyway, so who knows what the economy will be doing by then. And Johnny is very generous with his money and his time, although he doesn't spread the news all over the papers about how much he is donating. He gives quietly and without publicity, like it should be. He will always be #1 in my book.
