Lance Armstrong: Out of Retirement for Another Tour de France
Tuesday September 9, 2008
![]() John Shearer/WireImage.com Lance Armstrong is coming out of retirement with the intention of competing in yet another Tour de France. "I am happy to announce that after talking with my children, my family and my closest friends, I have decided to return to professional cycling in order to raise awareness of the global cancer burden," the 36-year-old told the Associated Press. Armstrong hopes to add an eighth Tour de France win to his record of seven consecutive first-place finishes. The race "is the intention," his spokesman told AP, "but we've got some homework to do over there." Armstrong's feat is well-known. In 1996, he had a 50 percent chance of survival after being diagnosed with testicular cancer that had spread to his lungs and brain. He's also a magnet for celebrity hookups, including Kate Hudson, Sheryl Crow and designer Tory Burch. See photos of Us' Cads of the Year. "I had sex if I had the energy," he says in the October issue of Men's Journal. "I wasn't one of those guys who believed in the myths about the guy losing his chi. "But the fact is that if you are riding your bike five, six, seven hours a day, you are not a sex champion," he explained. "You're just not. You have fatigue, low testosterone and a lower libido." Grinning, he added, "But you know, I never got any complaints." See photos of Celebrity Bromances. Join Us on Facebook and Twitter for even more up to the minute celebrity news and photos!
