Lance Bass is keeping an exclusive diary only on Usmagazine.com about his experience competing on Dancing With the Stars. Here is his entry about this week's semi-final round.
SEMI-FINAL SURPRISE
I was really surprised we made it through to the semi-finals, because I thought we were going home last week. Len [Goodman] gave us the lowest score out of all the couples, and he really influences how viewers vote. He basically tells America if we’re good or bad. When he gave me a 7, I thought it was over. Getting voted through just tells me that the fans really want to see us stay. I know I'm not the best dancer in the world, but I finally feel like everyone's for me now, instead of against me.
LEARNING FROM LEN
Len gave each couple an individual master class this week. Mine was last Wednesday. I thought he was going to come in and hate me, but it was great working with him! It's awesome to hear him say I'm the most improved. He's really rooting for me and told me he wants me to make it to the finals. That's great to hear from your nemesis! He helped me prepare my jitterbug routine and even took my hand and started dancing with me. He told me that he had "pigeon toes" when he started dancing, too, so he knew where I was coming from.
JITTERBUG TIME
Rehearsals have been pretty stress-free for tonight's mambo and jitterbug routines. We learned the choreography for our jitterbug last Wednesday in record time - in an hour as opposed to two or three. We’re dancing to the song “Jim Dandy" and doing a lot of tricks. There's choreography in there I never dreamt of doing: I'm throwing Lacey, she's flipping me - crazy stuff! On the show, you're not normally allowed to do lifts, but with the jitterbug you can. We're going to take full advantage of that.
ROCK THE VOTE
Producers wanted me dance to our song "Bye Bye Bye" for my freestyle routine if I make the finals, but I think [doing an *NSYNC routine] would hurt me in the end, because Len doesn’t like my *NSYNC moves. Instead, I've decided to go with to classic hip-hop moves from today with old-school music. Right now, I'm leaning towards dancing to “Tricky” by Run DMC, but I'm going to poll my fans on my MySpace page to see what they like best. It’s either that or “Ice Ice Baby.” I'll even let them weigh in if they want the '80s mullet back!
