VIDEO: David Letterman Slams John McCain Again for Canceling Interview
Friday September 26, 2008

David Letterman berated John McCain for the second night on Thursday after the Republican presidential nominee canceled his scheduled appearance on The Late Show on Wednesday.

"Now I'm feeling like an ugly date," Letterman said Thursday. "I feel used. I feel cheap. I feel sullied."

The McCain campaign said the senator backed out to focus on the economic crisis and the bailout legislation, but on Wednesday Letterman showed a clip of McCain having makeup applied before an interview with Katie Couric that was occurring as he was taping his monologue (Watch above, at 7 minutes in).

"We deeply regret offending Mr. Letterman, but our candidate's priority at this moment is to focus on this crisis," McCain spokeswoman Nicolle Wallace said on Today Thursday. "[We] felt this wasn't a night for comedy."

On Thursday, Letterman told the audience, "You're here on a good night. So far none of our guests have canceled."

Over a clip of David Blaine hanging upside-down in NYC's Central Park, Letterman remarked: "It's the same thing McCain did to me last night."

The Late Show's Top 10 list was "surprising facts about Sarah Palin." Among them: she "sometimes calls John McCain grandpa."

Letterman also jabbed McCain while interviewing Paris Hilton.

"You had a little run-in with him, too, didn't you?" he said, referring to the campaign's use of her image in an ad attacking Barack Obama for his "celebrity" persona and her rebuttal.

The first debate between McCain and Obama is scheduled for tonight.
