Mackenzie Phillips Enters Rehab for 10th Time

 Frazer Harrison/Getty Images Actress Mackenzie Phillips, who was charged with two felony counts of drug possession on Wednesday, has entered rehab for the tenth time, TMZ.com reports. The former One Day at a Time star faces two felony possession charges -- one for cocaine, one for heroin -- and a misdemeanor charge for the unauthorized possession of a hypodermic needle or syringe from her arrest at Los Angeles International Airport last week, when bags and balloons of the drugs fell out of her pants at security. Phillips, 48, was fired from the sitcom One Day at a Time because of her drug addiction 26 years ago. As a kid, she says she prepared joints for her dad, John Phillips, the founder of the band, the Mamas and the Papas. "I grew up in mansions, but everything was dirty and broken," she told USA Weekend magazine in 1999. "Very little was going on inside except sex, drugs and rock and roll." Early on, she knew she had a problem. "The first time I had a drink, it woke up the sleeping monster inside me," she said. The actress blew through her $47,500 weekly salary from her sitcom by buying drugs, and soon found herself searching for quarters to buy food. In 1994, she turned her life around, appearing as a drug counselor on 90210. A few years later, she also starred on Disney show So Weird, saying the network's producers, "embraced [her] baggage." "Why did I survive?" she asked in USA Weekend. "Maybe it's to say to others, 'This happened to me. It could happen to you.' I don't mind being a poster girl." Poor Mackenzie She is a talented and beautiful actress it is a shame that she is still in trouble with drugs. She was doing so good there for a while too. I really do hope she can get the help she needs and that Rehab will help her this time around. And kick this habit and stay clean and sober for good. I will be praying for ya Mackenzie

I saw Mackenzie take a cake for ten years and give her mother a cake about eight years ago.Addiction is a disease where relapse is a fact of life, unfortunately.I work in recovery and have eleven years of sobriety because I still work a program, which is absoulety necessary.

If the first 9 times she was in rehab didn't rehabilitate her, somehow I don't think the 10th time is going to be the charm. If she hasn't figured out how to live cleanly at her age, she's never going to. Sad that she has gone through life like this but it seems she's had plenty of opportunity along the way to straighten out and she has wasted every one of them.

Until any of you have ever been in REHAB for an addition, then you can be critical of people! I have not personally in rehab, HOWEVER...I have a family member who struggles with addiction, and I have seen how hard it is for those people. Remember one thing....never judge a person until you walk a mile in their shoes!

I guess they weren't kidding when they said heroin was one of the hardest habits to kick. Some of these rehab places are like country clubs. She needs a hardcore rehab place with no frills and people who will make her read everything she can about addiction and attend therapy sessions.

This is sad. A neighboor of mine went to jail for 6 months for multiple d.u.i's went to a halfway house for 3 months then went right back to jail for a year and a half for having cocaine on him. He just got out of jail last week and is right back to the booze. Some people just don't care or must feel hopeless I guess. Sad.

I hope she can finally get it. After 10 times, she obviously needs something in conjunction with rehab, like jail time... Something! Some people just don't get it and it's so sad. There's always people to willingly help and usher you on your way down though, which is just as sad.

It's sad but I hope she isn't going to rehab just so she can get a lighter sentence for having drugs.. Maybe throwing her in solitary for about 2 years would get the drugs out of her system once & for all... Or better yet maybe she could be dropped off on a deserted island with just food & water brought in every so many days for about 2 years ...
