Mary-Kate Olsen: Ashley Wants Marriage and Children, Not Me!

 Dave M. Bennet/Getty Images Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen don't see eye-to-eye when it comes to marriage and kids. In their new coffee table book Influence, designer Karl Lagerfeld asks the two if they plan on having families. They both look at each other. "I don't feel the need to get married," Mary-Kate says. "But Ashley wants children. I'll be a great aunt or godmother." "To my child," Ashley interjects. See photos of more celebs who don't want to wed. Don't expect Ashley to walk down the aisle anytime soon. "I don't even have a boyfriend," she says in the interview (which took place before she started romancing current beau Justin Bartha). "You have to plan that first, right? Figure that out first?" Look back at the Olsen's fashion hits and misses over the years. Meanwhile, the twins appear on Thursday's Oprah Winfrey Show and discuss their decision to live apart. Was that a good thing, Winfrey asks. "Absolutely," says Ashley. "We're sisters. We're twins. We work together, and I think to live separately is just -- it gives you your space," Mary-Kate says. "I mean, she lives a few blocks away, but it's just -- it's nice ... to go home [and be alone]. I respect the fact that Mary-Kate knows what she wants and doesn't want in life. I was exactly the same way about marriage and children. Not everyone has the same standards and outlooks in life. Some people want their own family, some don't. As for me, my outlook has completely changed since then and now I would love to get married and have children...someday. I am 23 years old and don't plan on having any of that anytime soon. She's only 22 years old and to some, that may be close to the age where she should want to get married, to others, it's far from it. Who cares, really? *rolls eyes* Just live your own lives exactly the way you want to instead of wasting time judging and criticizing and getting worked up over celebrities that you have never nor will you ever meet ( seeing their face and getting their autographs does not count, by the way ).

Wow, JackieRae, really?? Just because someone doesn't have children doesn't make them selfish and irresponsible. I am in my 30's and still haven't decided if I want kids. And, I've been married for almost 8 years. These girls are young and they should get to enjoy their youth...it doesn't come back. There's nothing selfish about waiting to make sure the time is right for yourself, not having kids because you think you have to. Get a life!

JackieRae you must be a housewife living in Wyoming or something. Especially with that hillbilly name! Some people just don't have a desire for children. It has nothing to do with being responisble or selfish. Being selfish would be having children when you know you don't really want them.

Why is she selfish and irresponsible because she doesn't want kids? Having kids does not automatically make you selfless. She's still very young and she may someday change her mind.
