Michael Phelps Earns Seventh Gold Medal, Ties World Record

 Greh Wood/AFP/Getty Images Michael Phelps tied swimmer Mark Spitz's world record by winning his seventh gold medal in Beijing Saturday morning. "I'm really at a loss for words," Phelps, 23, said after the 100-meter butterfly race. "I'm excited. I just don't know what to say." The race was a close call: Phelps beat out Serbian Milorad Cavic by just .01 second — about the time it takes to blink. (The Serbian team initially challenged the results against Cavic's wishes, but withdrew their complaint after watching a slow-motion video of the finish.) Phelps, who was in seventh place at the turn, won by taking an additional stroke, while Cavic glided into the finish. Spitz — who earned his seven gold medals during the 1972 Munich games — sent well-wishes to Phelps. "One word: epic," Spitz told the Associated Press. "It goes to show you that not only is this guy the greatest swimmer of all time and the greatest Olympian of all time, he's maybe the greatest athlete of all time. He's the greatest racer who ever walked the planet." Tying the record awed Phelps as well. "It seems like every day I'm in a dream world," he said. "Sometimes you have to pinch yourself to see if it's real." Phelps has the chance to earn his eighth gold during his final race on Sunday, the 4x100 relay. "It's not over yet," he said. my niece is swimming four days a week, two hours a day. And she said that when she gets a little bit older she wants to swim in the olympics, and win gold medals just like Michael Pelps. Thanks for being a good role model. Good luck

Phelps is a phenom in his sport and a brilliant competitor and tactician. It takes incredible discipline to chart and complete the endless days and years of training and competition that got him to his eight golds in Beijing. And then there's the NEED to consume 10,000 to 12,000 calories a day just to fuel the level of physical output he has given during this competition. His life plan is already set for the next four years to compete again in London in 2012 which on some levels must be daunting for a young man, but the fact that he will soon be a ga-zillion-aire from endorsements should help. Only in amerika..

Michael Phelps is amazing to watch. He has worked so hard all for the goals he has personally set. He is winning gold metals in the Olympics and is representing the United States in a way that no one else has!!! US magazine needs to set him up on a date with a girl. It could be all put together by US Magazine for one lucky girl...and I know the perfect one! She has watched him grow and achieve miraculous accomplishments.
