Michelle Obama says politics hasn't changed her husband. "The Barack Obama I know today is the same man I fell in love with 19 years ago," Michelle, 44, told a cheering audience during her keynote speech (see video, above) Monday at the Democratic National Convention in Denver. Throughout her speech, her voice caught with emotion and she sniffed several times. "He's the same man who drove me and our new baby daughter home from the hospital 10 years ago this summer, inching along at a snail's pace, peering at us anxiously through the rearview mirror, feeing the whole weight of her future in his hands, determined to give her everything he'd struggled with so hard himself, determined to give her something he never had: the affirming embrace of a father's love," she added. Why categorize ourselves as Americans? I'll tell you why. Because people want to be connected to their roots whatever they may be. Nothing wrong with being a proud American. Some people have no other connection except the American culture, and that's fine. But many people are still connected to their ancestors. Nothing wring with that either. People (whites, blacks, etc.) have the right to be proud of who they are, whether that's culturally, racially, gender-wise, etc. Saying things like "you people" and not understanding why people want to identify with a their roots is Exhibit A as to why people want to hold on to their culture. And as for calling "such attention to ourselves" I don't know what you mean. It's unrealistic to think people can ignore someone's skin color, culture, etc. Not gonna ever happen. People are different. Let's not pretend we're all cut from the same cloth. Only when people can be celebrated for all that they are will this country truly live up to it's fullest potential. I love America!!!

3:14 surely you don't know enough to make this comment. It is not when you are in America that you are called "African-American" or "Chinese American". In other worlds too you still can hear that there are so many immigrant whose native countries in not where they are at now who are labelled as "X-something", e.g: "Korean-Canadian", "Indonesian-Canadian" etc. And this respect, I think it's okay because as an immigrant myself, being "X-something" will always remind me of my identity, my root and thus the history that made me become who I'm now.

Even those who immigrate here and adopt citizenship of this country, once that's done they are as American as apple pie. I want a president that loves AMERICA. For better or for worse. Nothing in Obama's history indicates patriotism. That's scary. I wasn't born in this country but I'm now a legal citizen. I am so proud. Everybody should be so proud and GRATEFUL. You should speak out on things that concern you, but never surround yourself with anti-american thoughts and ideas. Especially if you're trying to run the country. You gotta love the country. You don't always have to agree with it. But you have to love it. It's the greatest country on earth. Good heavens, McCain better be our next president. I've never seen such celebrity-like buzz around a potential leader. LEADER! This guy could have the fate of our nation in his hands. McCain is not my first choice. I don't frankly think there's a perfect candidate. But someone who has been a senator for 21 years should be getting WAY MORE respect and credibility. We all know how admirable his militairy service is. We should honor him and be proud of him for that. But people are forgetting how SIGNIFICANT his politcal experience is too. The fact that the Obamas did an interview for Access Hollywood tells me everything I would ever want to know. The fact that nobody can name ONE thing Obama has accomplished in his political career tells me everything. Obama is an empty suit. He's very intelligent. He's very sophisticated. He's relatively handsome for a presidential candidate. He's a good person. But he isn't solidifying his stance on anything. He isn't spending enough time with the core issues. He's being a celebrity. God bless him totally, but please don't make him our president! People are supporting him for the wrong reasons. His charisma is misleading. People love the idea of a black president. Most of us think having a black president would be awesome and historically profound. But it's not a reason in itself to be president. I'm against the idea that we should be ignoring the important stuff simply because he's black. We will eventually have a black president. Hopefully for the right reasons. The door is wide open. But I believe in my heart that our safety, our economy, and our freedoms should be the main focus in this election. I'm seeing more focus from McCain. But somehow Obama is too busy gracing the cover of US WEEKLY. US WEEKLY is for the Jonas Brothers.... NOT THE POTENTIAL LEADER OF THE UNITED STATES.
