Misty May-Treanor officially dropped out of Dancing With the Stars on Monday - and her partner, Maksim Chmerkovskiy, isn't taking it lightly.

"It sucks," he told Usmagazine.com after the show. "I'm a tough guy, and I've been around injuries before, so I know what it's like.

"But when it happens to somebody next to you, it sucks," he added. "You would almost rather it happened to you. It's a freak occurrence - it had nothing to do with this competition, nothing to do with her shoes. It's a wear and tear on her body from 20 years of volleyball."

"This whole thing is really sad, and I'm just sad!" says Chmerkovskiy, who joined May-Treanor onstage for her surprisingly sentimental farewell Monday.

As the two-time Olympic beach volleyball gold medalist is set to undergo surgery later this week for a ruptured Achilles tendon, Chmerkovskiy assures Us, "I'll be bugging and texting and staying in touch."

After a nine-month rehabilitation, May-Treanor insists she'll return to the volleyball court.

Meanwhile, on Monday's show, Brooke Burke continued to wow judges, nabbing a score of 28 (and a perfect "10" from Len Goodman, no less) for her Viennese waltz.

"So exciting!" Burke told Us. "To get a 10, that's what we strive for!"

NFL vet Warren Sapp earned a personal best score of 25 for his Viennese waltz, while Maurice Green took home a 24 for his jive.
