Actress Natalie Portman and singer Devendra Banhart have broken up, a source close to the couple confirms to Usmagazine.com.

"Things just weren't working out," a Portman source tells Us. "Natalie is young and they just were very different ultimately.

"She's really a free spirit," the source adds. "She's complicated because she's very serious about her career and smart but also artistic and free-thinking. It's tough to match."

The couple, both 27, started dating in March after Portman starred in his "Carmensita" music video.

Banhart's rep has no comment.
