My mother was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer 1 year ago. We have been thru surgery, radiation, and now finishing up chemo. When we first found out I got on the internet to find out everything that I could about this cancer. As stated before most people don't know they have it until its to late to do anything about it but make the patient comfortable. They said that my mother was in stage 2 when they got to hers.

I have researched the causes of this cancer which range from smoking, advanced age, male sex, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes mellitus, and family history of pancreatic cancer.

My mother smoked years ago but quit due to heart condition. But she has also had diabetes which she kept on her doctor about and told them she needed to be put on insulin because it was to high. But the doctor did not listen to her and 3 years later she has now developed cancer.

The mortality rate for this cancer is high. But that is usually because they dont find out until the very end. With the research that I have done there are people who are 8 years out of therapy from pancreatic cancer and still going with no reoccurance. I only hope that I can say this in 8 years about my mother and others who have this cancer.

My mother is fighting this with her very soul. We all are. But it comes down to the person with the cancer and how much they are willing to fight.

I hope Patrick lives a long happy life and that they find a cure for this cancer and every other cancer.

My mother passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. She never smoked and was never in the hospital or had any severe illness for all of her 76 years.(Ironically, Patrick Swayze was one of her favorite actors-"Dirty Dancing", "Ghost"!!)) This is a fatal illness and there is no test to catch it. Even if it caught in the early stages, it is still fatal. Michael Landon, Pavarotti, and Randy Pauch (The Last Lecture) died from it. I was told christmas eve by my father he has fourth stage pancreatic
cancer. The day after christmas he had surgery and a port put in to
start his battel to wellness. The thursday before christmas my parents
were told of the cancer. I grew up with a great childhood and I talk
to my dad every day if not twice and my mom,for fortey two years.My parents just retired in lakeland florida a year ago and are the most
caring parents one could ask for.My father starts the shots that give
a small % of hope in the fourth stage. god bless to all cancer fighting

Pancreatic cancer is seen higher in patience who drinks too much alcohol however there are cases when pancreatic patients who doesn't drink but smoke excessively. It is true that this particular cancer has a very high mortality rate.

My dad passed away from Pancreatic cancer. This is a terrible cancer to have. You pretty much will not survive from it. My dad only survived four months after he was diagnosed and that was with treatments. I think it's wonderful that he is still alive. Hopefully, they will find a cure soon. But no, smoking does not cause this cancer. They do not know the cause yet.

My grandfather died of pancreatic cancer and never smoked a day in his life. Smoking causes lung cancer yes, pancreatic cancer no one knows. I wish Patrick and his family the best.
