Pink Floyd Founding Member Dies

 Jon Furniss/WireImage.com Pink Floyd founding member Richard Wright has died. He passed away Monday of cancer at his home in Britain, a spokesperson tells the Associated Press. He was 65. See Us' photo tribute to stars who have passed away. Wright met Pink Floyd members Roger Waters and Nick Mason in college and joined their early band Sigma 6. Sigma 6 eventually became Pink Floyd, with Wright co-writing and performing some of the band's key songs, including "The Great Gig In The Sky" and "Us And Them" from Pink Floyd's 1973 The Dark Side Of The Moon. After quitting the group in the early 1980s to form his own band, he rejoined to record the 1987 album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. This is a very sad day for rock and roll. Rick Wright's passing is the saddest moment in my life since my mom's death last year. Now, the fourth death in the Pink Floyd family (first was manager Steve O'Rourke in 2003, then arranger/orchestrator Michael Kamen also in fall of 2003 and Syd in 2006). After this, I think Pink Floyd's over. The reunion plans are gone, I think David Gilmour was keeping this secret when he said "he has no desire to reform PF again" to the press a week ago hence why there was no reunion tour. Thankfully I got to see Rick with Pink Floyd back in May of 1994 in Foxboro Stadium (now demolished) and was the best stadium show I ever went to and is tied as best concert experience aside seeing Genesis' reunion last year in Boston. I believe my mom is up there chatting with Rick and telling him how much I admired him and Pink Floyd plus he's up there with Syd and the late Steve O'Rourke (who was Pink Floyd's manager from 1968 until his 2003 death).

I had the great fortune to see the Floyd three times: The Wall in 1980, A Momentary Lapse of Reason in 1987 and The Division Bell in 1994. Each were incredible experiences. Richard Wright's passing is sad, but he made our lives a little brighter with his music. How I wish, how I wish you were here...

My hopes of seeing Pink Floyd in a reunion tour are slowly diminishing. The time will never come, and that makes me sad. I will never hear the intro to Echoes live with Richards notes. You will be missed.

Back in the 70's I got to see Pink Floyd perform Dark Side of the Moon and later saw them in Portland Oregon. Greatest shows on earth!

Oh my, am I stunned..... I've known about Pink Floyd since I was about 5 (when DSOTM came out). I did get to see them in Vancouver B.C. June 1994. I had always wished they would all get back together.....ah but I can wish all I want to. "Shine on, you crazy diamond....." You will be so missed. I just can't believe you're gone.
