Actor Ryan O'Neal, Son Arrested for Suspicion of Meth Possession

Actor Ryan O'Neal and his son Redmond were arrested on suspicion of meth possession at the star's home in Malibu Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Authorities found Redmond, 24, in possession of the drug while a vial was discovered in Ryan's bedroom, Los Angeles County Sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore told the paper.

Ryan, 67, and Redmond were released from the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff's station Wednesday morning. Bail had been set at $10,000.

The police search was related to Redmond's probation. He was arrested last year in Malibu on charges related to possession of heroin and meth while driving under the influence. As part of his plea, he was sentenced to three years of probation and charged $1,688 for the DUI.

Ryan, who was nominated for an Academy Award for his starring role in 1970's Love Story, was also arrested last year on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and negligent discharge of a firearm during an argument with another son, Griffin. The actor claimed he only fired a warning shot.

Redmond's mother is actress Farrah Fawcett.

Drug addiction/alcoholism has two strong components, genetics and environment. I'd say these children were in trouble from the start. Their father is an active addict/alcoholic and I am not sure about Ferrah, but statistics say if both parents are addicts the child has a 75% chance of becoming one as well. The odds get worse if the parents use in front of/with the children. I feel bad for Redmond, he was doomed from the get-go. But he is old enough now to change his life, he can get help if he wants it.
