Shanna Moakler: Protesting Prop 8 Is "'Wicked Awesome'"

As outraged as Shanna Moakler is that California's anti-gay Proposition 8 passed, she says she is thrilled to see people protesting it.

On her MySpace page, she recalls getting stuck in traffic in front of a Mormon church "and the protestors had gathered and were out against Prop 8."

Normally, she says, she'd complain about the traffic, "but it was actually really amazing to see all the people in the streets and feel the energy.

"I think it's damaging that people have to fight such a proposition, but at the same time, it was so awe-inspiring to see Americans finally using their voices and not just wanting change - but demanding it.

"It made me proud, and I really felt with the outcome of the election -- and seeing all the people today -- that we as a society might really be able to see change," she writes.

Adds Moakler, "it was as we New Englanders would say 'wicked awesome.'"

The Mormon church funneled 70% of the money into California from various congregations all over he uS.
Mormon bishops armtwisted their members into donating dollars above and beyond the usual 10% tithes they usually pay.
On top of that, wealthy people in each ward were called in and asked to pay thousands of additional dollars each.
Other members were urged to also give of their time.
They made it look like a grassroots movement but it was all organized through the Mormon hierarchy.
Mormonism is a cancer on America!

The mormons want to be allowed to have multiple wives (which i have no problem with), but it's not the norm (which is what people keep saying about gay marriage). They want to be allowed to live thier lives as they see fit and yet The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints mobilized followers to give an estimated 77% of donations to support California's proposed marriage ban. Californians Against Hate released figures Tuesday showing that $17.67 million was contributed by 59,000 Mormon families since August to groups like Yes on 8. Contributions in support of Prop. 8 total $22.88 million. Additionally, the group reports that Mormons have contributed $6.9 million to pass a a similar law, Proposition 102, in Arizona. It's beyond hypocritical to want people to accept your way of life but to not accept other peoples. It's like me saying I'm all for gay marriage but totally opposed to straight marriage.

the Mormon church donated millions of dollars to the Yes on 9 campaign in CA. The Mormons who felt so persecuted for their religious beliefs that they had to move to Utah for freedom donated millions to stop a law in CA that had nothing to do with them. That's hypocritical and it's horrible

The Mormon church is not allowed to donate money to this! It was the members who directly donated to the cause for and against! I support a church that for once stands up for what it believes! THat makes them unhypocritical.

Normally the Gay Community is upset that they are targets and yet now they are turning others in targets. We live in a democracy. It was put to the vote and it appears that now is not the time for Gay marriages as spoken by more than the Mormons. Stop intimitating a religious group and blaming them for the outcome. The Mormon Church may have encouraged their members to get behind the yes vote BUT it was upto the individuals whether they did or not. Look at Steve Young a high Mormon profile who is still active and yet donated money to the No vote. There is nothing to be proud of when people try to intimitate others into having their own way!

I guess I'm confused. Did the citizens of California not pass this proposition? It was put on the ballot and it was voted on by those people it directly affects in California.The people were given the choice on the matter and the voters chose to make gay marriages illegal. I don't understand why people are fighting this. Who or what gives a person the right to decide what rights a person should be allowed or denied? Are you God? Did you write the constitution?

The Constitution states: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

Keeping with what our forefathers wrote, ALL men (women) are created equal and have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. That being said, again who are all you nay-sayers to deny a man/woman the rights that are granted to him/her by the Constitution? Just because they aren't attracted to members of the opposite sex as the rest of us doesn't mean they are any less human and they deserve the same things that us heterosexuals enjoy.

If you also bothered to do the research, gay and lesbian couples take relationships more seriously and are usually in them for long term. Straight people (men and women alike) tend to have a flippant attitude about marriage. The saying, "Marry for money first, then for love" comes to mind. With attitudes like that, it is a wonder why the divorce rate is so high.

I am all for the gay community to be able to get married as that is their right. You should stop judging others based on their sexuality or anything else for that matter. You are being hypocritical. It is very un-Christian to judge people you don't know. Open your mind and let people live the life they want to live. The life your gay or lesbian neighbors lead do not affect your life, only your perception of how things should be.

You want a gay person to marry a straight person? And then what, are they allowed to get divorced when the marriage doesn't work (i thought the church was against that too)? 6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

I know that when two people love each other, it's only right in Gods eyes that they be a man and a woman. I know that homosexuality is an abomination according to Leviticus 18:22, and cannot be condoned under any circumstance. This is the one and only truth, right? I was reading a little more of the Book of Laws, and have a few questions that maybe one of you educated voters can help me answer...
1. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness - Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
4. Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?
5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2. The passage clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?

3:28pm The same could be said to you!!! You should stop pushing your beliefs on others. It is your "belief" that you should have the right to marry a partner. Well, it is my "belief" that you should not be able to marry your partner of the same sex. Sure, live a long happy life together, but from the beginning of time whether you believe in God or not, marriage has always been defined as a union between a man and a woman. Animals have rights too. We all love them and want the best for them, but we aren't gonna pass a law that says you can make a dog your child or your partner. Come on people! It isn't that hard!!
