Shia LaBeouf: Car Crash "Eye Opening, Terrifying"

Shia LaBeouf is speaking out about his July car crash, which he calls "eye opening and terrifying.

"The car hit me at 70 mph," the 22-year-old told Entertainment Tonight over the weekend while promoting his new flick, Eagle Eye.

"It was one of the biggest things that's happened to me, for sure, in my life," he added. "I'm grateful to be here."

LaBeouf was partying at West Hollywood's Troubadour Club before the July 27 crash that flipped his truck. After the accident, he was booked on suspicion of DUI (police later said the other driver was at fault for running a red light).

LaBeouf underwent extensive hand surgery to repair two of his fingers, which were "pretty mashed," in the accident, Transformers director Michael Bay later said. (His injury has been written into the movie's sequel.)

He recently told Access Hollyood he will have more surgery "to be back to 100 percent."

He said he was thankful his accident injured only his hand.

Said LaBeouf, "It could have been something else."

The DUI charge hasn't been resolved as of yet.. Shia's reps seem pretty confident that his BAC taken at the hospital will come back way under the legal limit and the charges will be dropped.

The accident was deemed not his fault whether he was drunk or not.. he was broadsided by someone who blasted through a red light at high speed in a BMW and managed to flip his tank of a truck twice.

However..that does not make his suspicion of DUI arrest magically disappear unless the BAC says he was driving legally (under the limit). The results are still pending.

And he is not a spoiled brat unless that counts a kid who learned a trade to support both of his parents (unemployed, low income hippies ..one with a serious drug problem). He still lives in an middle class neighborhood in a small home and drove a relatively "normal everyday joe" F150 quad cab truck even though the combined ticket sales of his movies will break the 1 billion mark with Eagle Eye. And he is considered in the industry as a level headed, responsible, ego free actor.

Geesh.. wait until the DUI is even official to blast him.

People, don't be so hard on him! We have not heard of him being involved in anything like this before his crash. Now its his time to prove whether he does or does not need help. He will either learn from his mistake, OR turn his back and think he is invincible like many other stars. So hopefully he is telling the truth when he says his eyes have been opened!

The very fact that this kid was driving after he'd been drinking is wrong, even if the accident's not his fault. Whether it's rehab or counseling, etc., he should be getting some kind of help. And that would be true in my book even if he wasn't a celebrity.

Are you serious, rehab asap. He got into a accident that wasn’t even his fault. I do realize drinking and driving kills hundreds if not thousands of people each yr, and don’t tell me that I don’t know what it feels like I lost a really, really good friend to a drunk driver but the boy has not been in that much trouble and people who judge too quickly end up looking like asses. Now if he gets 3 more dui and maybe a coke prob then we can discuss rehab.

I am happy he is healthy and well. God was on his side and it he has seen a light. Good for him. Cant wait for transformers 2.
