FACEBOOKi would totally be ok with them moving in in my community. they are just folks like the rest of us trying to raise their kid right. and im sure they would abide by the same rules as their neighbors just like the ARB wants them to. on a side note, gated communities are awful and for elitists who are narrow minded and fear the unknown of their own community.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden recently made an offer on a home in a gated Southern California community only to be denied by their potential neighbors, a source tells Us Weekly.
When the mom-to-be heard that she and fiance Madden were denied by residents who were conerned about photographers hovering near their homes, "Nicole was livid because she loved the house," the source says. "She thinks it's a BS reason, but she couldn't fight it."
Still, being dismissed hasn’t put a damper on the couple’s growing excitement over their coming event. Another source tells Us that Richie, 26, is planning a baby shower for the end of November. And Madden, 28, expects fatherhood to have a positive impact on many parts of his life, including his songwriting. “I’m sure it will inspire me,” he told Us on October 27. “Yeah, I’m sure it will.”

I don't think it's fair that these people can't see that Joel is really trying to help Nicole - I mean, seriously, how many celeb guys could have knocked her up, and just left her? Joel wants to do really good, and Nicole is being totally awesome about it - so she's had some bad publicity. How would you feel if people were calling you a crackhead and saying things about you losing your baby? They are completely making a new start !! Plus, everyone knows that Joel doesn't like Paris, and now Nicole's ditched her!
I'm a big GC fan, so i guess this makes me a bit biased though, but anyone can see that these two really want to make a difference to each other!
Please stop talking bad about them... =D

I definitely don't think this is a case of discrimination, and I think Nicole and Joel would lose if they took the association to court.
First of all, the association runs the neighborhood and the association is allowed to vote on who can buy a home in the neighborhood.
Secondly, and most importantly, I'm sure the homeowner's association looks at this as a safety issue, and I'd have to agree with them. If Richie and Madden are allowed to move in, paparazzi are going to be swarming the neighborhood. I'm sure the association doesn't want to shell out a bunch of extra money to hire more security to keep the paparazzi out b/c face it, the little security dude in the booth and a stupid little gate are not going to keep crazed photographers and fans out. Serious money will have to be spent to properly secure the neighborhood....especially as media frenzy around the couple increases as the birth nears.

nothing in what those people did is against the law. in a lot of "upper class" communities, there are strict codes and laws you have to follow. noise levels, children and how many (if they're aloud!) you have, how many and what kind of vehicles you have, how your yard looks....some places even make you pay a DEPOSIT in order to live there. it's just the way it goes! i have a lot of family members who live in those communities and it's crazy, but if you're willing and able to live that lifestyle, then do it. i'd think it would be a bit boring, but whatever. and being a celeb doesn't get you any special treatment since they're known for being loud and rude. and not following ANY laws or codes.

I've heard of this before with celebrities and when I lived in Atlanta I heard a lot of stories about rappers being kicked out or denied a home in a gated community. You just have to prove that 1) other black people live there and its obviously not based on that and 2) this person's presence in the community would be a nuisance and create an unpleasant environment for everyone else.

You absolutely can deny them housing because its NOT based on a age, sex, religion, ethnicity. They have no grounds for appealing the rejection. There is a legal term called "peaceful enjoyment" and you have a right to it- there is so much evidence that the people of this community would suffer and be denied "peaceful enjoyment", especially after the kid is born.

You couldn't be more wrong. Even discrimination against age is in violation of the Fair Housing Act. I can give you several case references but you cannot be denied because of your age, race, religion. The Fair Housing Act ensure that, even with a Homeowner's Association, there is no discrimination based on these things. Nicole and her Talent-less pseudo-ghetto boyfriend are being denied because it puts their right to peaceful enjoyment in jeopardy.

OMG! People this is not against the law!!! Nor is it discriminaion against a person! These people fear for their safety and peace. There are apartment buildings in New York and other major city's that you have to apply to a board or directors who in turn can accept or deny you.
This is not illegal in any form or fashion this is what happens when people actually take the necessary steps to insure that the neighborhood they invest in and raise thier family's in is under thier control and they actually have a say!
Oh yea Paris and lots of other stars live in gated communities but yet the paps still get in. I do not blame these people for saying NO! Maybe all the stars need to just buy lots of land and start their on community!
