Actress Nicole Kidman takes home the heftiest paycheck in Hollywood these days. The 39-year-old Oscar winner, who earns up to $17 million a movie, tops The Hollywood Reporter’s 2006 list of highest-paid actresses.
"My motivation now is very much about if the character intrigues me and if the director intrigues me, and if I have the desire to throw myself into that," she said recently, explaining her career choices to Vogue magazine.
Julia Roberts, 39, who was the reigning highest-paid actress for the past four years, didn't make the list at all, having taken time off from her career to star in a Broadway play and spend time with her 2-year-old twins.
America’s new sweetheart appears to be 30-year-old Reese Witherspoon, who won the best actress Oscar last year for her role as June Carter Cash in Walk the Line, and is in second place this year, bringing in $15 million per movie.
Renée Zellweger, Drew Barrymore, and Cameron Diaz, who also command $15 million a film, placed third, forth, and fifth, respectively.
Also on the list's top ten are Halle Berry ($14 million), Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie (both $10 million), Kirsten Dunst ($8 to $10 million), and Jennifer Aniston ($8 million).

17 million?! For ONE hour and a half movie??!! NO ONE deserves that!! That is riddiculous and just goes to show what our crappy society values. Knowing their
ludicrous salaries makes me want to never go see one of their lousy films ever again. When ticket prices are being raised to 10$ or more it really makes me angry how much these stars are cashing in. Most of them are overrated and NONE of them deserves that much money.

Just because Nicole chose not to parade her kids in front of the cameras does not mean she does not see them. The kids stay with Tom because they are going through Scientology training. Just you wait, when the kids come of age, they will turn their backs on Scientology. Then you will hear from them what a good mother Nicole has been to them.

No one would have heard of her if not for Cruise. She appears to be nunnish and pitiful when she's a slut too leaving her fiancee for Cruise,dating Lenny Kravitz and that billionaire guy who just played her.
She does not deserve this payroll and what are her movies anyway?
I have not seen any of them nor heard of them.
She is faded and old. I think she had botox because her face and forehead
seems stiff and unmoveable. Nicole has never been pretty.
Her beauty comes on way too strong its like those strong smelled perfumes
in women that is irritating and leaves you tired of them so easily.
I prefer the warm sweet beauties in women and actresses.
Not all men dig Angelina Jolie. She's like a skeleton,she's young but ages fast and worst she is a pervert. They are among many people like Britney,Madonna that brings down America.

They're all WAY overpaid!! $12, $15 million??? Are they serious?! Ludicrous!! Julia Roberts draws crowds and can act, so she should be the highest earner (maybe $1 to $2 mil max!). She should do another movie sometime soon.

the kids are with their father, crazy or not he is their father. kids generally live with ONE of the parents after a divorce and that parent sees more of the kids than the other. if she had physical custody for the amount that he does would people question when he sees his kids? not like they do with her. another case of a woman vilified for not sticking to stereotype.

I guess Nicole's an o.k. actress but it doesn't matter if your the highest paid or lowest paid, where in the hell are the kids? She's in Geneva one week, Tennessee the next week, Sydney the next week, etc...When does this woman see her children, oh yeah never. I guess she "wants it all." jennifer aniston is overpaid. salary is determined by both box office draw and actin credibility. roberts has that, kidman is faltering in her draw not her acting, witherspoon has had the draw and is earning her credibility, berry has the acting not the draw to carry a movie yet but that is changing, zellwegger has both, but has dropped back, diaz overpaid, barrymore can pull crowds in, jolie has the acting chops but draw is tbd, dunst wtf? overpaid.

My bf even notes she's old and too white for his taste. He calls her Ice Queen.
But you cant have it all because for me its empty when you're all just Oscar

I really need to thank all the dumb airheads out there (I.E. paris hilton, lindsay lohan, britney spears, etc etc) who made me realize how much I appreciate MY life and how I don't have to resort to degrading myself in front of the public just to make an extra buck. I get to sip hot cocoa while listening to lectures in class and getting a job where I DON'T have to do drugs and expose my va-jay-jay to make money. Sure a mansion looks cool, but at the end of the day a decent sized cozy house is much more appealing (to me at least) than a 15 room mansion where you have to use a cell phone to find your husband or whoever. And I'm sorry, but the ability to be left alone and have privacy is GOLDEN!

We'll go ask doctors, and firemen, and lawyers to all give up their hardwork so they can walk around pantyless while getting paid $50 million dollars for a sex tape. Sure actors get paid alot... but look at the price they pay. No privacy, humiliation, and to put themselves at such low levels just to make an extra million. At least "normal" people get to make real mistakes (not, oops, i should've worn panties) and learn from them. What do celebs learn at the end of the day...? "i learned how to memorize lines and how to put on shoes... ha... ha... ha.."
Honestly, do we all really need a 15 room mansion?
