The ever stylish Nicole Richie might have to work an orange jumpsuit into her wardrobe. According to the Associated Press, The Simple Life star was charged today with a misdemeanor DUI following a December 11, 2006, incident in which she was caught driving the wrong way down the 134 freeway carpool lane in Burbank, CA. Richie later admitted to taking Viocodin and smoking pot.
According to Usmagazine.com, Richie, 25, had been telling friends she took Vicodin to combat menstrual cramps.
Richie's latest trouble with the law follows her 2003 guilty plea for heroin possession and an arrest for driving with a revoked license. Charges were
later dismissed after Richie successfully completed probation and checked herself into rehab.
Under California law, Richie now faces mandatory jail time that could include 90 days to 1 year in jail. Richie's arraignment will take place at L.A. County Superior Court in Glendale, CA on February 21.

where the law is broken,anyone police,judges,lawyers and of course the so called i dont know why im famous.n.richie and the guy from prison break paris hilton,get away with crimes. it sends a message to the rest of this so called law abiding country. that the breakdown of its system is soon at hand.no one should be above its laws that knit order together.i applaured n.korea on how the president ther put his own son in jail for stealing.thats true respect and fear to anyone about justice.which is brought here in america.she and anyone like her,including the lawyers and justices who let a drug addict wink at truth an justice.needs ther head chopped off, so let them eat cake.

I got nothing against Nicole Richie. She deserves the world, the money she spends, a tv show, an eating disorder, depression, a drug habbit and a life full of second chances. I do have something against the fans of hers, who put her on a pedestal causing paparazzi to put her all over the news. I blame the paparazzi but I am disgusted with her influence and how easily her fans are influenced. They are shallow kids that don't seem to know how to think for themselves.

I am PISSED that someone can sit there and say that she was high and NO BIG DEAL get off her back !!! Are you insane to think that drugs do not affect your driving abilities? Good grief. So, lets go light up the peace pipe and all go out driving. I think she should pay the price for what happened. She was under the influence of pot. She shouldnt have any drugs in her system period. Isnt that why you go to rehab? Oh, my bad. I guess not.

Two friends of mine were recently killed when struck by a drunk driver that was driving the wrong way down a highway. Whether or not she hurt anybody, she should still serve time and think about what COULD have happened. This is a serious offense. Everyone should be punished for driving under the influence, whether it be alcohol or other drugs. It impairs your ability and people can die as a result.

Wah wah, so she was high and driving...WAY different than being drunk and driving but whatever! I haven't known anyone to go to jail for being high and driving.
How many people do you know that drive that way all the time? Get off her back! And she is eating, has been gaining weight. The poor girl has been taking steps to clean up her life since she went to rehab from heroin. And they do prescribe vicodin for cramps, if you have them bad enough...I am sure they checked that she had a prescription for those anyways.

I wonder how loving everyone would feel if Nicole would hit a member of their family while DUI. My grandmother died from the effects of driver with a DUI. He had been given numerous 'second chances' because 'he had a problem'. This woman is out of control and the ones that need to be worried about are her potential victims. Who cares if she's a mess, largely of her own doing? Wow! look at what Nicole is wearing!

This young woman has been thrown into the limelight and is simply unable to handle all the attention (and money?). She is so sad and sick. We need to send her loving thoughts and pray that she will seek recovery. Everyone is so mean spirited in what they are writing about Nicole. She will only seek help when SHE has hit bottom. I believe that giving her jail time may raise her bottom and will actually be a gift. In that case, I feel she needs to do the time fitted to the crime.

Having gone through the same issues I do believe that she should spend some time behind bars. Perhaps a few weeks would do the trick. It just might make her think that this is what her life will be. Whether it's treatment in jail, rehab,or individual and group therapy,this only works if the individual really wants a different way of life.I do agree that what applies to us regular hard working people should most definatly apply to the famous.

As a recovering alcoholic myself, I do think Nicole needs to go to jail to gain some humilty and spend time thinking about and treating her diseases (alcoholism, drug addiction, anorexia, etc.) While inside a lock-down facility, not only will she pay for her crimes, and yes, they ARE crimes, she will also be able to get the beginnings of the help she will need for the rest of her life. She should have to stay for a mininum of 6 months to get a good foundatiton for her recovery by attending AA meetings, etc. while she's in there. Any less time would be of no help to her. This all seems to be a big joke to her, as it does to Paris and Britney, and I think it's time one of these gals gets her life in order so she can be of help to her friends and others like her. it's just far too sad seeing these young girls destroying their lives before our eyes.
