Why is Randy even a judge? He says the SAME things over and over "it was pitchy", "that didn't do much for me"...WTF are the contestants supposed to learn from THAT??? Simon is great, and the show/judging would SUCK without him.

Six seasons ago, when we were first introduced to a relatively unknown DJ named Ryan Seacrest and the acerbic British baddie Simon Cowell, it was hard to believe the two would end up being reality TV’s hottest odd couple. Throw Paula Abdul and the dawg Randy Jackson in the mix and it’s strange bedfellows all around.
Paula gets snarky with Simon, Simon banters/flirts with Ryan. Oh, and somewhere during the Idol Variety Hour, there’s also a bit of singing. But we have to wonder, is American Idol’s playful and often bitter banter scripted?
The answer is a firm no, according to Idol’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe. “If I would have written any of that it would have been a lot funnier, to be frank. I wouldn’t have kept this gay angst going for so long. They would have both come out by now in my story.”
The producer also shot down published reports that he “watches the rehearsals and writes notes on who Simon should make snarky remarks about.”
“I don’t make notes,” Lythgoe said. “Simon keeps to himself before the show with a feed, so he can listen to the music.”
Maybe that's what makes him so cranky.
