Elle Fashion Director Nina Garcia, best known as a Project Runway judge along designer Michael Kors and host Heidi Klum, was fired from her post at the magazine, Usmagazine.com learned on Friday.
Elle did not return calls for comment.
Her biography on Bravo's website describes her as working "closely with top designers and stylists and pinpoints the trends of the season in her monthly mission to develop the ultimate look book and shopping guide for stylish women around the globe."
The Colombian-born fashionista got her start in the 1990s working in the PR department at Perry Ellis. She became the fashion director for Elle in 2000.
Her dismissal was the second surprise related to the Emmy-award winning show this week. On Monday, NBC Universal, Bravo's parent company, filed a lawsuit trying to keep the huge hit from moving to Lifetime in the fall.

You know, this news about Nina is shocking. Love to know reason why she was fired. Anyway, I watch Project Runway faithfully and I just mentioned recently that I think new judges should be on the show. You know, like rotate the judges. I think Nina and Michael Kors are getting boring. I'd like to hear some other judges perspective on the clothing. And that last guy that won Project Runway, I can't think of his name offhand, his clothing was nothing to brag about as far as I could see. Anyone agree?

So long loser... those of us who have watched Project Runway from the very first show know that Nina Garcia is a Biotch. I hope she saved a lot of money because in this economy jobs are hard to get. I so hope they replace her on the runway.

BIG thing going around is.........."american idol" stars kristy lee cook and david archuletah have a "thing" going on. this has been talked about all over the place. weird, because she's older than him, but nothing would surprise me. all the david archuletah fans aren't happy about this, especially the girls.
another thing going around is kristy lee cook NEVER sold her horse. this was a story used as a sympathy ploy so people would like her and keep her on the show. she has tons of horses (she lives on a ranch) and out of all the horses she sells hers? she has money by the way. her parents are NOT broke. just ask her sister. her sister is married to a pro football player. kristy's whole family lives quite well. lets just say they're rich. cat got out of the bag that kristy prepares herself to be in the bottom 3, but she knows she'll be okay. she's quite smug. she knows her brother in-law has a lot of friends and they vote a lot. just some information for all your "ai" lovers.

Too bad. Elle had become a much more interesting magazine in the last 4-5 years. Fantastic fashion pages -- inspiring but not Fifth-Avenue-out-of-touch like Vogue -- and intelligent articles, too.
I hope the new hire doesn't kill those essentials.

In the print magazine world this is a NON-news item. Magazines eat their young - it's part of the culture - and, fashion magazines, especially, are revolving-doors of politics and power so being fashion director at Elle for 7.5 years is a long, long career by most standards.
Monthly print magazines are hurting in this day and age and really can't compete for ad dollars with broadcast and internet immediacy, so it's very common to let the highest earners go so that the worker-bees can keep putting out magazines. Also, magazines are the most un-green media on the planet and ultra damaging to the environment during manufacture and once they hit reader's hands.
Publishing executives like Nina generally have a golden parachute and she will likely be quite comfy as she decides what offers to take next.

Aw, that sucks for Nina Garcia that she's no longer fashion director for Elle Magazine! Good luck in your other future endeavors, Nina, and I can't wait to see you back on Project Runway, whether it be on Bravo or Lifetime!
