In this Chronicles of Narnia–esque children’s fantasy, spunky 12-year-old Lyra (Dakota Blue Richards) must avoid the wicked Mrs. Coulter (Nicole Kidman) and rescue her dashing scientist uncle (Daniel Craig). Aided by a magical golden compass and accompanied by her personal “daemon” — each child in the story is followed by a shape-shifting, animal representation of their soul — Lyra tries to foil the Magisterium, which is using children in their fiendish experiments. (The Catholic League, which believes the evil organization represents the church, has urged members to boycott the movie.) Boosted by a slew of talking creatures, the girl-power tale (based on Philip Pullman’s 1995 book) will charm the young-wizard set in a holiday season without a Harry Potter flick. Unfortunately for adults, Kidman and Craig, who don’t share any scenes, have little screen time. Even the tender-hearted ice bear (voice of Ian McKellan) has a bigger part!

I saw this movie, and it has NOTHING to do with killing God!!!! Like I said, the movie has NOTHING to do with killing God. Just watch the movie to find out, unless you would rather hate something without finding out the truth.
could people be anymore dramatic, highly doubt it. kids love these adventure movies it is only the parents who point out the evil in everything, and to say that you wouldn't watch another one of her movies is ridiculous. Many actors push the limits w/their movies and it doesn't have to mean they believe everything they portray. Let kids be kids.
Go Nicole!! I think it's great as a mother that she has done this movie. I think people get too wrapped up in religion.
I haven't seen the golden compass yet, maybe I'll just wait till it comes out on video!?
The auther who has penned this trilogy is very outspoken that he is an aethist. The books were intented to kill the main God that people worship and believe in. That is what the movie is about. And in the last book of the trilogy, they succeed in killing this said God. Nice childrens flick if you want your kids growing up wanting to kill the one who created us.
Which God do they kill? The world is full of Gods and Goddesses. I am an Odinist (Germanic Heathen) The real "Old Time Religion". The world is full of Gods and Goddesses and aelfin, wights, and other beings.
The world is, also, full of Aetins (evil spirits), who are trying to kill the Gods. The Aetins kill some Gods, but they are all reborn.
Because good things never real die.
The Gods are a race of beings. God, the Al-Father, has a father and mother. God has a wife named Frigga, the Al-Mother, who also has parents, grandparents, etc.
Honey, don't worry. You can't really kill a God nor a Goddess. They are eternal. They die, then they are reborn anew. Odin died on the World Tree, then he was reborn. He will die at the Twilight of the Divine only to be reborn once more at the New Dawn of the Divine. When the earth is reborn and made anew.
The big bang was the death of the old universe and the rebirth of this new universe.
Death is not real. Life moves in cycles. There is no real beginning nor ending only a circle of life.
Our universe will die and be born again as it has already done zillions and zillions and zillions and zillions of times before.
Ostara, the Goddess of the dawn dies every day at twilight only to be reborn the next day at dawn.
Baldur died and is waiting to be reborn after the Twilight of the Divine.
I don't know what religion you are. But, if you're a Heathen, don't worry, because our Gods never die.
A lot if people do not know but the book is based on killing god.I am very upset that a mother like herself would do a role like that. I will never see any of her movies again.
