After her bad luck at the box office, Jessica Simpson is hoping to bounce back with a country music career.
"I am a country girl," she says in a new interview with Billboard.com. "I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right."
She also cites Martina McBride, Shania Twain, Faith Hill and Reba McEntire as inspirations, adding, "I think there is a strength in female country artists."
She won't reveal her songwriting collaborators, but tells the Web site: "Writing is a release for me. It's a way for me to tell my story. That's not to say I wouldn't record a song that I didn't write. It's just that it has been a while since I have opened the book."
Simpson is still not certain if she'll hit the road to support the disc, which is due later this year.
"Since the record is in the beginning stages, there hasn't been much talk about a tour just yet," she says.

the media does not give her the credit she deserves.She's a good girl shes not on drugs does'nt need rehab or having shot gun wedding or kids out of marriage.I love her voice and for years Ive said she needs to sing country music so I am thrilled I will buy it the day it is released!!and as far as her and Tony They both deserve to do what they want and hope to see more of them togeather and as far as her dad,I enjoy going on vaction with my inlaws and my parents what is weird about that.Jessica is close to her family that is a sothern thing something to be proud of!!

No I won't buy her new album. I once liked Jessica when I thought she was different than the other pop singers, but then she became like the others: failed marriage, trashy clothing, more famous for how little clothing she wears and how much she pushes her boobs up rather than what she sings or used to stand for. I've over the Simpson clan. That dad is creepy anyway.

Now as for her going country- hey let her be and let her try it, I dont think she is a jinx to tony romo- really i dont, maybe he is just having a slump you never know. Dad is clearly trying to mold her into the image of Carrie Underwood. I'm not going to tear someone down for trying to explore different avenues, however, Jessica seems to have no mind of her own. Her Dad/manager pulls all the strings. Hell, they're even trying to copy the Romo romance. Get some originality please. Carrie Underwood has always promoted herself as a country artist...even as an AI contestant. Country music is her passion.
