Project Runway Recap: A Challenge for the Ages
Wednesday February 13, 2008

Five designers remain on the February 13 episode of Project Runway, and to add to the pressure, Heidi Klum announces that two people will be eliminated for this go-round!

For the challenge, Tim Gunn leads the designers into the Metropolitan Museum of Art and explains that they must create a look inspired by a piece of art in one of three wings: Greek & Roman sculpture, European paintings and the Temple of Dendur. Rami, who never met a fabric he couldn't drape, immediately latches on to a sculpture of Aphrodite.

Back in the frenzied workroom, freakishly mild-mannered Jillian snaps to a nagging Christian, "I'm making pleats!" Meanwhile, Sweet P gets unhinged because her model is late to a fitting. And Chris plops down on a couch for a snooze, despite Tim's comments that his finished dress needs more refining.

The runway show oozes drama. Chris shows off a cream-colored gown (based on an 18th-century painting) that's tragically reminiscent of another piece of his; Christian unveils a get-up with black pants, black hat and a frilly white blouse based on a Spanish painting; Sweet P sends down a multicolored dress inspired by a peacock depiction; Jillian reveals a chic dark coat and shimmery gold dress (a nod to the story of the Argonauts); and Rami presents a simple draped purple gown. Christian and Jillian get raves, while the judges all rip into Sweet P's blah frock. The guest judge, Italian designer Roberto Cavalli, actually praises Chris, but for Rami complains, "It's too normal" (This sounds even more damning with an Italian accent so thick, subtitles are provided.)

So who's in? Christian. Jillian. Chris. And Rami. (Bye-bye, Sweet P.) Here's the twist: Chris and Rami must present three looks from their Fashion Week collections to the judges, who will then decide which one makes the official final three and goes to the big show. Hey, how do you say tension-filled in Italian?
