Simon Cowell may not be so mean after all.
The American Idol judge, 48, gave the family of a cancer-stricken 3-year-old $162,000 to pay off their mortgage, he announced on Oprah Winfrey’s Big Give show on Monday.
The family drives more than 100 miles from their Minnesota home every day so their daughter, Madelaine, can receive treatments.
“It’s a very basic story of a normal family whose daughter got very ill, and they had some financial problems which was relatively easy for me to sort out,” Cowell explained to Extra.
On the show, he told Winfrey that he “credits her” for teaching him to be a do-gooder.
Said Cowell, “I never knew that doing good could feel so good.”

Sometimes it is not how much money you can give. Even a smile, or a card to say HI, or a hug. It all makes you feel good to give it and the recipient to receive it. Thanks Simon!

So much thanks and respect goes out to Simon!! You will never understand how much everyone in the little girl's family love and respect and just how grateful we are for what you have done. That shows you have a great deal of love and consideration for others in their time of need. And you were right, YOU SIMON are the little girls gaurdian angel for what you did. I believe Oprah gave 10 million of her own money to Katrina victims. She had new home built and her tv viewers were able to donate furniture and other items for those home on her wibsite. this way those unfortunate people could walk into their new home and they was furnished and ready to go. She has done more for this country and people around the world than any other celebrity and part of publicly announcing it is to get others that have more than their fair share, to help as well. How many houses, cars etc does anyone need? Giving feels great and she's leading the way. keep it up oprah.

I wish people would know the difference between a person on a show on TV and a real person. Just because Simon would give constructive criticism to someone on a music show, doesn't mean he's not a good person that walks amongst us. I've actually heard really good stories about Simon and this is just another one to add to them. Simon is a good person, he's just getting paid to tell people on Idol what he truly thinks of them, that's totally different from a person whom has Cancer. Good job Simon and to anyone else in this world who would do such a fantastic thing.

Can you name another celebrity who creates a magazine, names it after herself, for the sole purpose of putting herself on the cover every month???
So she gives away some money every now and then, big deal, she has to broadcast it far and wide.
