I am so sick of blacks acting like they are treated SO badly!!!! Believe me I am not at ALL racist, but dang it gets old. I know that they were slaves and I couldn't even begin to know what that was like, but neither does THIS generation of blacks!!!! In my town blacks get treated ALOT better than ANY body else, So I don't think they are the victims anymore. Anyway, sorry I had to get that out there, b/c the last comment kinda pissed me off!

Barack Obama will appear on The View Friday, March 28 for the first time since becoming a candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination.
Obama's sit-down comes in the wake of his much-lauded speech on race in America, which he made following an uproar over inflammatory remarks made by his former paster, Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., that he has denounced.
"The fact is," he said in a speech Tuesday, "that the comments that have been made and the issues that have surfaced over the last few weeks reflect the complexities of race in this country that we’ve never really worked through – a part of our Union that we have yet to perfect."
"And if we walk away now," he continued, "if we simply retreat into our respective corners, we will never be able to come together and solve challenges like health care, or education, or the need to find good jobs for every American."
The reaction to the speech has been mostly positive. "A presidential candidate actually spoke to Americans about race as though we were adults," Jon Stewart remarked.
"Inaugural addresses by Abraham Lincoln and Franklin D. Roosevelt come to mind, as does John F. Kennedy's 1960 speech on religion, with its enduring vision of the separation between church and state," the New York Times opined.
Earlier this week, View co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck took issue with Obama's response to Wright's comments
"To say that he has just now distanced himself, concerns me because I think that they have a long-standing relationship," she said on the show.

I really think Elizabeth needs to think before she speak. Yes we can all have opinions but hers is so stupid. We as people no matter what position we have or what position we're running for can't control the things other people say that we're connected to. An example the wives that have been with their political husbands for 15 to 20 years and they make a racial comment or sleep with a hooker, just because the wife has been there does that mean they stand for the same thing? Get real! What Pastor Wright said is really no different from what Martin Luther King said 40 years ago! Blacks have been treated bad and it is high time to end this racial nonsence. Is is wrong for blacks to state the injustice and racial facts? No! But the media and white America is trying so hard to pull some kind of dirt up on the future President Mr. Obama that they are reaching for anything. Future President Mr. Obama has made it very clear where he stands on racism and change. Joy made a comment about the Catholic church that was really good. All that's going on in that church should all Catholics be judged for continuing to go? You Elizabeth with your job, if the T.V. company starts representing something you don't believe in, would you walk away? Please. Like I said, get real. Racism is real and still alive and just because blacks speak on it and express our feelings it's wrong to you. Your comment made it seem that our future President Mr. Obama has been closed up in this church for 20 years with no outside life and only getting teaching on how white America has treated blacks and that maybe he is apart of some BBB(Black, Black, Black) society! How about this, speak on how John McCain has maybe married a family member or cheated on his wife, but we don't know what his wife is thinking because her facial expression is always the same! There's a topic for you.
Barrack is 1/2 white and lives in a 2 million dollar home in Michigan- he really knows what its like to be a poor black kid
African Americans are the only ones making it a race issue they want to play the victim 24/7 The only reason ppl are standing up for Barrack is bc he plays the race card. Alan Keyes is 100% black but he doesn't play the race card he worries about the morals of the country
I just wanna say that I TOTALLY agree with Elizabeth. She is NOT at all stupid, just because she has diffrent opinions. People need to bring out this type of thing instead of just ignoring the facts and pretending everything is perfect with this man!!!!!
I live on west coast and I am definitely liberal. I think that Elizabeth is free to speak her opinion but who wants to hear it. As a white woman married to a black man with 3 biracial children, I can very easily say from experience racism STILL exists. Black people can have negative views towards white folks but that does not mean racism (racism=race + power). Last time I checked Black people are the minority in this country! It wasn't until a few years ago that all states made it legal for interracial marriages. And yes, an ounce of black blood makes you black in this country.
Are you white people telling me that you have no relatives who are racially ignorant. Do you still love them. My own father I know has very distorted views of all races but I still love him and obviously don't share most of his opinions of these matters.
Last, what is wrong with critiquing this country. Republics are all about giving tax breaks to the rich. They pretend to be religious to get religious right, but people like our president could care less about morality. Look at his own white trash daughters. They have about as morality as I have in my pinky finger.
I hope this country is ready for a black president or a woman president! Because we need change. It is time to start helping every American out not just the filthy rich.
Oh and white woman your hands shake because you can't understand how someone could have talk so much hatred. Good thing you were not a black man in the south not very long ago because your body would shaking from the noose around your neck while everyone white person around cheered. WAKE UP TO REALITY AND LEARN A LITTLE ABOUT OUR NOT SO DISTANT PAST!!! THIS COUNTRY IS NOT PERFECT SO GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF THE CLOUDS! THIS WHOLE THING IS BLOWN OUT OF PROPORTION BECAUSE WHITE PEOPLE ARE AFRAID TO HAVE A BLACK MAN AS PRESIDENT AND THIS IS THE ONLY DIRT THE REPUBLICANS COULD FIND! OBAMA DOES NOT SUPPORT THE REVERENDS RACIST REMARKS .
I agree that Ms. hasselbeck better get with it and grow up. She is very very small minded, as shown by her trouble with Rosie O. Just because her husband is a high paid pro sports man, she feels like she knows everything. The idea is to support anyone who is trying to make a better life for us regular people, not the rich and the richer ones. Us Middle class people take care of this country. Grow up Lizzie!
Democrats-y pick on Elizabeth so - aren't u guys s u say the true exponents of free speech - is speech free as long as it is pro-democrats? This is the reason many of us out here in Asia tend to side with the republican viewpoint, (not on the war though). But voting for the war and standing by the cause is not the "sumtotal" of a republican. Republicans by far, are less antagonistic, less unfair and more importantly, less scary. Anyone who does not agree with u (the democrate) is stupid or a fool or should be fired from her job. Hey where is that great belief that the USA is truly a democratic nation with complete individual freedom? There seems to be a movement to change the political palor of USA to "democratish" or "left-wingish". Please do not write me insulting me or whatever, I am not coming back here. Too much agro! ;) Peace to All
Annoying or not. I notice the Obama supporters preach a lot of hate on here. Hate directed at all women.
By these remarks you show you are sexist and racist.
If you cry about how racism has affect you, don't perpetuate hate.
It's about time that everyone realized that Barack Obama cannot tell his Minister what to say and how to say it. As for E. Hasselbeck, she needs to grow up and stop being so damned naieve or is it just plain stupid?
She needs to be somewhere other than "The View". I watch only to see Whoopi, Joy and Sheri...everytime she or B. Walters open their mouths I hit the mute button.
Come on, people. Let's be totally honest about the ways of America. Being black in America does not denote your genetic make-up but how others see you at first glance. Tell me, the first time you saw Obama, did you think he was a black man? It used to be that anyone with just an ounce of black blood was considered black even if they looked albino. We are not so far removed from history that we can pretend this is not the case. First impressions are crucial and skin color is among the first characteristics noticed. So when anyone labels Obama as black, accept it as America's general perception and not his DNA.
Most of the comments here just reinterate America's need to confront our past and start fresh. It's time that the leader of the free world will step up and admit our faults so that we can stop hiding behind empty words and plans destined to fail. We can all respect truth and honesty. But it's impossible to put truth in the forfront when we won't be truthful to ourselves.
Rev Wright was quoting US Ambassador Peck’s Sept 2001 appearance on Fox News in the “Coming home to roost” sound byte cherry picked from this sermon. The more I research the Reverend Wright and watch the complete sermons, I am convinced this is typical Rovian politics, just this time it is HRC and Mark Penn behind the whispers. This is a non story spun and spoonfed by the media for infotainment purposes.
Take the time to search on youtube for FULL sermons by the Rev. Wright. He is very inspirational
Lets begin a campaign to get Hasselbeck off of the air. Her name fits her. She is truly a hassle and as ignorant as most racist who erroneously believe that their racist "views" are under the radar.
On another note: the comment made by "anonymous" in reference to Obama having more appreciation for his white family...get real! They obviously do not have much appreciation for him. Just ask your racist relatives about the acceptance of a bi-racial child in their day. Many of the children when born were killed because of their darker hue. Its about Black & White in America. Until all of that is figured out everything else is just smoke. Until you can take off your hood and come down off that horse and put your torch out, America will always be "damned". Step in front of your BS or shut the hell up!
What is sad is that everyone is giving Barack Obama a hard time for what another man said. Everyone on this board has heard someone say something offensive about another race, gender or religion and yet keep those people in their circle, even if they don't agree with them. We all have our own mind. Don't be like Elliot Spitzer people! Going after prostitution in public and going to a prostitute in private. Don't be a hypocrite. Let Barack speak for himself. He is a great man. Vice-President Chaney said "so!" When asked a question about America's opposition to the war. That is un-patriotic as it gets. He doesn't care about what we think. Yet, you guys are talking about a sermon that happened 2 or 3 years ago. If you REALLY love this country, close your eyes and listen to what is being said by the canidates. Don't worry about the color or gender of someone or your past fears. Let's grow together and save our wonderful country. Vote for the person that says what your heart feels. Only you can make that choice.
First of all I've always thought that Elizabeth Hasselhoff was always very critical, obnoxious and not a great example of her faith. For heaven sake if a Barry Manilow refused to come on The View because of her, what does that say about her character. Now to the angry old white woman, it is because of stinkin, thinkin like yours and others is why we can't seem to grow as a nation. I thought too that we had come so far but I was mistaken. Barack Obama is a candidate that we will probably not see again in this life time. He's calling for unification and isn't it about time? He is saying we can do this together but that it won't be easy and it won't be achieved over night, Well isn't that true. I for one want to see change in the way we do things in our government. I think that this country has become so cynical that when someone like Barack Obama shows up he seems just a little too good to be true. He didn't bring up race the Clinton's did. He stayed away from the race card. He wasn't a black man running for the presidency, he wasn't a white man running for the presidency because after all he is biracial. He is just a very gifted man running for the office of president of the United States. I hope you succeed Mr. Obama. You've got me and my family's vote. We're praying for you.
Obama is down to earth, a regular person just like us. He has the same cares, the same wants, the same dreams. Because he's so much like ordinary people, he listens more to our dreams, our wants, our desires, instead of all these Washington-insiders.
If people want someone who'll fight for them, who'll make the US a better place to live in, who'll change the wrongs and improve the rights, who'll have the world be our friend and us be good world citizens again, then Obama's your President.
If you just want more of the same, then Hillary or McCain will do fine.
Maybe he can get those annoying hag bit ches to shut their yaps long enough to concentrate on slurping down his big, fat mullatto C O C K meat
FACT: On Feb 2, 2000 George W Bush visited an unapologetically racist, anti-Catholic school whose founder called the Catholic church “a Satanic Cult”
“Bush faced questions about the speech almost as soon as he finished speaking. In response, he has said he opposes the school's policy on interracial dating and the comments of its leaders, but that HE DID NOT REGRET THE DESCISION TO SPEAK AT THE SCHOOL.” – Washington Post Feb 27, 2000 – look it up!
FACT: Jerry Falwell BLAMED AMERICA FOR 9/11 and after that, continued to call the White House regarding policy AND the received calls from the administration regarding policy! – NPR 6/30/06 CNN 9/14/01
FACT: Rudy Giuliani accepted the endorsement of Pat Robertson who preached that Israeli prime minister Sharon’s stroke was God’s punishment – CNN 2/6/06
It’s obvious that those pretending outrage at Obama’s relationship to people with offensive views are clearly a result of their personal bigotry. Who called for Bush's impeachment after affiliating himself with RACISTS? Where was the anger over top Republicans associating with biased groups? You won’t find those on 168 hour (7 days) continuous loop on certain biased television networks and radio talk shows who should just own up to their own obvious racism.
Oh, ANGRY WHITE WOMAN - your story is a total crock -is this some kind of form letter Repubs are spreading? The story angry white-woman claims to have happened to her is a well circulated anecdote that’s been published several times over, including in “Christian” handouts of inspirational quotes.
I must admit that I usually dont agree with much the elizabeth Hassellback says but I think that she is dead on with this Obama thing. He should be called out on this issue with his pastor. Barack has stated how close his pastor has been to him and even was a part of Barack's campaign team until this controversy hit the fan. I think that America has EVERY RIGHT to call Barack on Rev. Wright. Mind you, when the controversy first hit the fan last week, Barack said that he had never heard Rev. Wright make such statements. Yet, when Barack gave his speech last tuesday, he said that he had heard such statements. Was he mistaken or did he just lie? I expect that Barack should be fully made to answer that question.
Lets be honest here. Had John Mc Cain or Hillary for that matter had been revealed to have as radical a pastor as Wright was/is, their political career would be about over.
I watch The view regularly so I know how some of the co hosts swoon over Barack, especially Sherri Shepherd. I have never heard her speak so fiery over anything until Elizabeth spoke about how America should be concerned about Rev. Wright. Hell, the mainstream media didnt even pick up the story until JUST a few days ago.
While open and honest discussion on race is needed in America, Barack's pastor and his views do more to continue the racial divide than to stop it.
you are all kunts
1. A preacher is not a mere "association," like a colleague at work or an uncle. A preacher is someone that people go to for spiritual and philosophical mentoring. (If you say otherwise, you would have to admit that you don't take ideas seriously). Obama's preacher is openly hostile to America. During a span of 20 years, Obama certainly would certainly have been made aware of that fact. Yet, he chose to continue to receive spiritual and philosophical guidance from this man. It follows that Obama shares some of the same anti-American sentiment. But he wants to be in charge of America.
2. Obama visited the Pentagon Bomber as a rite of passage when he launched his political career in the 1990s. The Pentagon bomber was part of the Weather Underground, a group that had declared war on the United States. He also continues to associate with him as fellow directors on the board of a charity. If you know of someone who had declared war on America and tried to kill Americans, you would naturally shun that person. If you voluntarily associated with such a person in any way, it means that his actions and value system do not really offend you. In other words, the Pentagon bomber's anti-American sentiment does not really offend Obama. But Obama wants to be in charge of America.
I can appreciate that a black politician has to walk a fine line to appeal to whites yet not alienate his fellow blacks, but this really is over the top.
No rational person can dismiss the totality of the evidence that Obama, when all is said an done, is anti-American.
I just want to tell Elizabeth that many people agreeing with what you said.
I'm responding to Barbara in Philadelphia:
I was going to vote for OBAMA. He may not be my first choice but I have always voted democrat, until this year!
So don't assumed that you know everything.
If Sen, Obama didn't even open his mouth to object when he heard the word GD America repeatedly for the last 20 years, what make you think he will do anything to defends our country when other nations attack us?
Sorry, I cannot trust Sen. Obama. I was not the one that bring this on, he did. He was there for 20 and some years and did nothing. I will not vote for a person I cannot trust.
About Elizabeth Hasselbeck, I like what she said. I think many of us are still in shock. This will only get worse, not better. Something like this stay with us for ever. Who know what else Sen, Obama has in his closet?
For the first time in 30 years...I'm voting Republican.
People always focus on racism as being a "white" against "black" situation. When will the world come to grips with the fact that racism exists between ALL races, and that does include "black" against "white".
Someone mentioned above that the people who are complaining about this issue weren't going to vote for Obama anyway and I think that is true. People just want to have a 'reason' not to vote for him because when you look at the fact Barack Obama is the best candidate out there. He's a unifier, and the only candidate who voted against a war in Iraq, knowing that it would not make us safer and not find the terrorists. Hillary is no better than Bush. I will vote for Obama and I will vote for him in November. Everytime I hear a negative lie about Barack Obama I am going to donate more money to his campaign. The people of the United States of America have spoken, Obama IS winning. He has more of the popular vote, more delegates, and he's won more states. Hillary can't see that but the superdelegates can.
Dear Angry White Woman. Had you ever been called a *n#gg&r* and treated like a second hand citizen and stripped of your human rights, I might think what you had to say has some merit, but it doesn't. I am a white woman, and I know that Sen. Obama's pastor doesn't speak for him. You cannot hold someone accountable for what someone else does. Too much has been made of this. See Gov. Mike Huckabee's response to Sen. Barack Obama's speech on YouTube. Huckabee is a pastor himself and he said we need to 'cut some slack' to people who have been mistreaded in America. Sen. Barack Obama will make an excellent president, I can't wait for that day. God Bless America and Sen. Obama.
Elizabeth isn't too bright. She's from the show Survivor. I don't know what she is doing on that show anyway. Everyone else is a comedian, and Barbara Walters is an interviewer. Elizabeth is a republican 'tool'.
Geez, come on. Obama is as much white as he is black, but most people choose to focus on the "black part" because those were the dominant genes. Do you think people would be making such a big deal if he "looked white"? People are angry because he continued to attend a church who's pastor has negative views. What is he supposed to do, cut all ties and affiliations with every oganization and person that has an opposing viewpoint or opinion? If that were the case, he would be accused of being too rigid and closed minded because he was not respectful of others and their right to an opinion. To Angry White Woman: I guess we live in a free society where everyone is entitled to their own opinion as long as it coincides with our own personal beliefs. We don't want to hear about anyone else's opposing opinions because their wrong. Sen. Obama has his own mind as we all do. Can you honestly say that you have listened to every sermon preached by your pastor and changed your ways accordingly? Many pastors preach godliness. IF we all lived our lives in accordance with their sermons, we would have a country full of saints and race wouldn't even be an issue.
