If it is true that the judges make notes during rehearsal, it is perfectly understandable that Paula could have become confused and started giving what was in her notes. After all, they had all heard two songs already in rehearsal, and Seacrest's inconsistent switcheroo could throw anyone, even without benefit of medication. Paula was thrown a curve that she couldn't handle. The other two managed, but it was a total chaos because of Seacrest's failing to following the instructions he had delivered

Paula Abdul says she just got confused on Tuesday's American Idol when she critiqued two songs by contestant Jason Castro (when he'd only sung one).
In an interview on Ryan Seacrest's KIIS-FM radio show Wednesday, she blamed the gaffe on a change in judging.
For the first time in seven years, she said judges were asked to wait to critique contestants until all five had performed (normally, each contestant gets feedback as soon as they've finished their song).
Abdul said she first heard about the change when the show went live.
"I go, 'We have never had to do this before ... Oh my God, what do we do?'" she told Seacrest.
"We were freaking out," Abdul added. "I said, 'We're gonna need paper and a pen to make sure we remember what we saw.'"
So she jotted down some notes.
When it came time to give Castro her feedback, she said, "I started looking at what I'm writing... I was reading the critique of what I was writing for Jason Castro...."
On the same page: Her notes for contestant David Cook, which she thought were for a second song Castro had performed.
"I got lost in my notes, and that is as simple as it was," she said. "It's so confusing.
"We were all discombobulated," she added. "It was just crazy, that's all."

ok I think that Paula is a bit flakey, but I also think the rumors are farfetched. I realize that I was also one to criticize Paula for her behaviour, just a bit off, but on the day in question I watched her and saw that she was genuinely sincere in her confusion. The whole show was weird, I didnt get to see most of Jasons 2nd show performance, it was cut off here in canada because of the limited timing...so I think I am getting tired off all this bad press about Paula when she is just a bit eccentric and different and on some pills that most of us are on anyways. Give the girl a break!
What apparently a lot of people are not aware of Paula Abdul was in a severe auto accident a while back .She almost died. She had a severe brain injury,she does not take drugs & she is not into alcohol. Give the gal a break ,it is because of the injury she talks rather slowly & acts confused,it is not her fault. She has a wonderful way of giving encouragement ,she is true caring & wonderful. I like the way she claps it is cute & rather childish I think she is precious.Why is it necessary to slam people especially when they are in the spotlight ,what has happened to the morals & sensitivity of the American people.. to have to make fun or slam people to survive.. How sad.. Yea Paula ,you have a great sense of caring & you are a bright star keep up the good work.
Doesn't anyone remember they had already said, in the past, that they put together their notes based on what they saw/heard during the dress rehearsal. The reason they do this is because there is so much noise from the audience behind them they cannot listen well or concentrate on the performance on stage. This is the reason she likely already had her notes for both performances.
Do I think she acts whacked most of the time - oh sure...but this really was just a slip up of being able to keep track of what she was supposed to be doing.
She should be on drugs and alcohol. She never makes sense and can barely get a sentence out. She's retarded. $10 bet says she's a Republican.
There is talk that the show is scripted and the judges are told what to say so they can potentially sway the outcome of the voters and keep the ones that "they want" on the show-RATINGS!! Either way, I still like American Idol. If Paula wasn't there it wouldn't be the same show and I honestly 110% think she should stay. So she goofed up, it was the highlight of show on Tuesday. She keeps things interesting. She is a wonderful person and is funny. Perhaps she does have a problem of some kind, that doesn't mean she should be kicked off the show and kicked to the curb. That is something you shouldn't do to someone. It's just RUDE!!
Whatever Paula. People are starting to question the integrity of the show. She was still judging Jason and she talked about his second performance. Before she was stopped by Simon, Randy and Ryan, she clearly said, "And on your second performance..." than she said, "I thought there was a second song..." Now either she was high on something and didn't realize or someone gave her cards to read off of. However, I don't believe that's the case...She clearly said the same thing the second time around for Jason that she was saying the first time when she got the "mix up." It has been said they base what the contestants do during rehearsals and write down what they think than, and tell them that during their actual live performance, which is really unfair. Anyway, I'm for SURE there wasn't a "mix up" and Paula and the rest can hide it all they want. I like Idol still though.

If American Idol wants to improve ratings then fire Paula Abdul. She is a bumbling mess. Last night proved what a scatter brain she is. Idol needs to hire another person that rips out the heart of the contestants and stomps on their dreams. We need another Simon!
i agree with "IDOL FAN" everyone makes mistakes and ive always enjoyed paula. shes always been very sweet on that show and never tried to hurt pples feelings. everyone on here has nothing better to do but to critize other peoples mistakes and act like they dont EVER make them themselves... paula your beautiful inside and outside. keep your head up high and do your thang....

It is really wierd how the judges had to wait until the 5 remaining contestants finished their two songs so they could then tell them what they thought about them!, etc.

THAT IS WHY SIMON NEVER EVER LISTENS to the live performances, but rather talks to Paula the whole time.
That is UNFAIR, because they prejudge basedc on how they want it to be perceived.
But PAULA is a very nice person but SUFFERS FROM SLEEP DEPRIVATION, she and her handlers never make sure she gets a night's sleep. that is a sick situation, and her staff should be FIRED.
Paula's staff keep her SLEEP DEPRIVED so that she can be totally controlled, financially.

As strange as the night was (and I was really glad they were going to make the judges wait)there is NO FREAKING EXCUSE for not remembering if someone sang once or twice. c'mon!! That woman has issues and for those shouting scripted, Paula couldn't remember how many songs a person just sang! She'd never be able to follow a script! Blatant,irresponsible favoritism aside I don't believe they're following a script.

Paula Abdul is a has-been struggling to stay in the limelight. Her actions on the CMT Award show were histerical - don't tell me she wasn't drunk or buzzed up on something - she looked wasted! Paula - time to quietly retire...............we're done with you!
